Can I just use SpriteManager (because its free) instead of SM 2? What are the differences?

Also, is there a way to make a similar effect for free?

Yeah I just realised I may have steered you wrong there. I'm not sure how different SM1 and SM2 are. Obviously the link I gave was for SM2, so if it was SM1 that you were specifically asking about you might want to ignore my link :)

Well I was talking about it in general. I just wanted to see what the interface was like. And those videos helped alot.

But for $150, I don't think I will be buying it. I guess I will stick with SM1. Will test it out now. Thanks!

Also, is there a way to make your own version of the SM2 effect for free?

By spending hours of your own time programming it, though it's debatable whether that counts as "free". (I'm not sure what "the SM2 effect" actually is, but my answer is probably true regardless of what it might be. ;) )
