I'm new to Unity and I am still 'exploring', so I would like to know what kind of game type is nice for a 'test game'.

I can only think of FPS, but I'm not sure if it is the most easy way to start off. Also, are 2.5D games made same as regular 3D's just with the different camera, or is it more complicated?

Some kind of traditional 2D space shooter or pong game or something is probably best to start with if you're a total beginner. FPS in 3D may be a bit more complicated, although there are a lot of assets and such which can help with the process.

2D and 3D are made quite similarly in Unity, it's mostly about how you use the camera. And you can mix and match them easily as well.

Asteroids, pong, breakout, and other simple atari style games are a good starting place to familiarize yourself with unity (or any engine/language really).

    Good luck!

    Okay, thanks guys.

I did use Unity 4 though, don't remember much of the features, I'll probably start with the FPS since I already did some simple games.

Oh if you have some experience already, id go for something original but still simple. If your gonna do an fps keep the scope small. Aim for one platform, with either single player or multiplayer at first (not both!) and avoid really complex mechanics like destruction of environments.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

I actually have a plan already, if you didn't tell me that one platform I would try to make both :)

I'm thinking about making 2 games, a SP platform and a MP platform.
