It seems I cannot get the WebPlayer to work in any browser.
After installing WebPlayer, a message is displayed in Chrome and Edge:

Also, it appears it doesn't work in 64-Firefox. After installing webplayer, Firefox continues to prompt me to install the WebPlayer again.

So essentially, no browsers can support the WebPlayer?
Windows 10 doesn't include Internet Explorer anymore. Opera is no longer supported and is unsafe to run Opera.
What am I missing here about this?

Edit: The only way I can get the webplayer to run, is to run the 32-bit version of webplayer released with Unity 5.2.0 with 32-bit version of Firefox. No other combination of anything works.
Luckily I made a backup of all webplayers, because Unitys site doesn't offer the 32-bit version download anymore.

I read on Unity answers other people are having the same issues.
    Unity, please look into this.

There's nothing to look into. The web player is no longer supported, by browsers or by Unity, and does not exist as a build target in 5.4. Instead you use WebGL.

    ???
There are thousands of assets on the asset store that link to a webplayer demo.
The Unity website still offers a Webplayer download.
Unity 5.3.6 still offers a webplayer download with the installation.
So I'm not really following you.

Unity 5.3.6 is no longer the current version, and Unity 5.4 does not offer any webplayer publishing. It's gone, kaput, over. Browsers have been deprecating plug-ins for quite a while now. Developers should be using WebGL for demos (and yes that includes me...still have webplayer stuff on my site at the moment, been meaning to fix that). The answer to your question "What is the future of WebPlayer?" is "there isn't any".
