what is the corresponding attribute of "color over life time" in the material of a particle system?

    say ,If I modify the attribute "color over life time",does unity modify a specified property in the material?
    what is it?
    I want my own shader surppot this attribute

    Don't know for certain, but I would expect it to modify the vertex colors on the mesh
