I had never really bothered about video games genres, (except that I don't like fps); it's now that I'm willing to create my own video games that the question pops up.

I'm also curious of the preferences of other developers, like you here. So, among the genres listed on the page below, which has your preference:as developers, why?

    List of video game genres

Thank you for your answers! :D

Quoting myself: "I'm also curious of the preferences of other developers, like you here. So, among the genres listed on the page below, which has your preference as developers, why? "

Designing & making myself would be very simple, one core mechanic, games as that's all my skill is able to do. Big sky dreaming it would be something deeper with an emotive story or theme that would get the players invested in it.

Arcade is probably the best description for the games I make too.

For the games I play you have everything from RTS, FPS, RPG, Simulation, 4X, and whatever else I happen to find interesting at the time.

I also play a bunch of Disney princess games. One of the occupation hazards of having two little girls.

Assuming your talking about playing games instead of developing them, I used to only play RPG's and Action/Adventure games. As I've gotten older and games have evolved to cross breed with features commonly associated with one specific genre, the types of games I've enjoyed playing has expanded.
Still today - I've never played an MMO - never has an interest playing online with other people, performing repetitive battle tasks. The closest I've come to an MMO is Destiny - unfortunately the pre-release features of single player game play in an online world really didn't materialize as much as I had hoped it would.
I used to dislike fps games - pretty much all of them. Since Oblivion and Bioshock I've come to really enjoy the fps rpg's. It might have come before that really, but I can't remember a specific game that agreed with my fantasy rpg likes before Oblivion.
I've been slow on the uptake on mobile so I haven't played a great deal of games on mobile. I can say though that I'm not a fan of the single mechanic - quick play gaming experience. Very few games that are built like this hold my interest beyond a couple minutes.
With that said I think some runners with story and rpg type elements are pretty fun, and some of the mobile games that have sophisticated mechanics are pretty fun. I only play indie mobile games - oddly - I think AAA published games don't belong on mobile platforms.
I've also gained an interest in rogue-like and adventure based platformers because they are super enjoyable and hearken back to some of my most favorite games of all time - original metroid and castlevania games.
I tried to enjoy the newer 3D metroids - and imo the best quality of those games were the music - which is low priority on my personal list of things that need to be great to be a great game.

Thank you for your input all of you but I made it clear that I'm only interested in what genre of games you prefers to make, to develop, not to play.

You also posted in the discussion forum. Which means you loose the right for the thread to have any relationship to the OP. :p Welcome to the forums.

But back to your question, as a developer I like to play a lot of small indie games. It's useful to see techniques other devs use to get around resource constraints. Games like Creeper World are especially good for this. It's an RTS built without an AI, which is a pretty clever way to reduce the work load.

Playing big budget AAA games as a developer leads to tears. There is often little I can learn from these games that's directly applicable to my work. I don't have the resources to make even ten seconds of Starcraft, Skyrim, Halo or Supreme Comander. I still play and enjoy the AAA games as a player.

The thing is, im not trying to be offensive, but the way you worded it could very well have meant, as developers, what do you like to play. Because being developers does change your view on thing. No harm meant, just trying to point out why it may have appeared ambiguous
