What games use Unity? My customer asked me, but I couldn't answer. I like Unity, they like Unity, 250k devs like it. But I don't know if I've ever played a real game built with it. Are there any big titles? Gigi.
Wow nice, hadn't seen that before....very comprehensive and can search by platform. Very nice. I was making a list of f2p browser based Unity games so far:
That's a good list. I forgot about FusionFall - I played that a few years ago. Hey! Wasn't Sony's FreeRealms built with Unity? I played that with my kids - very pretty interface. Gigi.
Don't forget the quality games that are on mobile. I made a short list of games I really like on Android (link below). IMO, Samurai II Vengence has got to be the most visually amazing game I've ever seen on mobile that was done with Unity. http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/126695-Examples-of-great-Unity-games-on-Android
check this out: BRICKFORCE!!! http://www.brick-force.com/?gclid=CKmTrJX01a4CFXRrtgodnT5Mbg very popular, sure to attract some attention to Unity.
The greatest unity game I've played for a standalone build is 7daystodie. The greatest unity browser game I have played is contract wars. Steam and kongregate are full of unity games
While were all here answering 2 year old threads, Rochard was a fun game made in Unity. I think it was the first PS3 Unity game too.
I think Hearth Stone is currently the most popular game made with Unity if you want to do some name dropping.
Off the top of my head: Hearthstone Rust Bad Piggies Angry Birds Epic Hitman GO Sonic Dash Temple Run 2 Temple Run 1 (Android Version) Kim Kardashian: Hollywood Kerbal Space Program Monument Valley Assassin's Creed: Identity SUPERHOT Ori And The Blind Forest Gang Beasts Beatbuddy Threes Supernauts Here is a trailer of games: Oh, and here is a small showcase of Unity games: http://unity3d.com/showcase/gallery And here is a series of Unity Case Studies: http://unity3d.com/showcase/case-stories And there are probably hundreds of thousands of other games released, with more and more being shipped every single day.
Lol good catch JamesLeeNZ. I thought that was pretty odd of Gigi as well. It's still a good topic though even today. I still say there havn't been any mega-huge blockbuster games made purely with Unity alone. But part of me says that's not really Unity's fault per-se. Sure Hearthstone and Supernauts and games like that are great, but they also don't put a whole lot of "strain" on the machine running them. So it seems like less-graphically intensive games are utilizing Unity fairly well, but as soon as you need graphics power over 9000 , other game engines are being utilized. But considering most huge gaming companies role their own game engines anyways, Unity doesn't seem to be that bad as an engine available to the masses.
Not sure what you mean by Hearthstone and Supernauts not putting a 'strain' on the machine running them; both are visually impressive and have very complex networking back-ends that work on mobile devices pretty fluidly. And whilst its true that hyper-realism FPS AAA bloom 'n' gun fests are in the minority of what is made with Unity, that isn't really the be-all-and-end-all of what 'makes' a game engine. I absolutely love the fact that these next 5 images are of games/non-game made with the same core engine of Unity, but extended and sculpted into products of very different art styles, target platforms, goals and purposes. BTW, that last image is of Unity being used as a Karaoke system in the Copenhagen Metro; If you sing the Eurovision song well enough, you get a free metro ticket.
