Resolved What does Unity mean when they say preview packages are "unsupported in production"?

I want to use Unity's HD Render Pipeline in my 2018.4.13f1 project but I don't want to update it to a newer version. As it stands, the package is in preview mode in this release of Unity, and thus is "unsupported in production" - but what does that mean, exactly? Am I not allowed to sell games with preview packages? I've checked the manual but it's rather vague on the topic and merely says you "shouldn't" use them in commercial releases; Is it okay if I do?

It has nothing to do with whether you are allowed or not. While Unity 2018.4.x is currently under long term support, you should consider any preview packages as not part of that. So don't expect bug fixes for that package to get backported. Basically just use at your own risk.

Actually I think I was incorrect. It looks like 2018.4.x just got its final release last week on April 15th. So 2018.4 is no longer being actively supported anymore either. So basically, the Unity version you're using is not getting anymore bug fixes. But that doesn't matter much if it is working fine. If you do encounter a bug, and Unity fixes it, the fix will go into 2019.4.x or later though, so to pick it up you'd have to do a major Unity upgrade. That's the risk you're looking at.
