Considering that I'd hope my next phone is 3+ years off, being able to run standard computer software would rock, moreso if it can be hooked up to standard peripherals.

I use my phone for 1) Texting, 2) Calling and 3) Maps.

As long as phones have that by the time my current phone dies, I don't think I'll care what I get.

I'm generally the same, but with the convergence that's happening (all of our computing devices doing more of what our other computing devices do) phones are becoming less a phone and more a pocket computer with one function being a phone.

So if you don't consider it as a telephone first and foremost, what kind of useful stuff could you do with it? In terms of computing power my current phone, which was under $300 Aussie dollars, can do pretty much anything I'd need a computer to do aside from a) play high-end games and b) be a programming workstation, and the vast majority of computer users don't do either of those things. Consider the portability, versatility and built in networking capability a "phone" naturally has... it's pretty awesome!

Yeah I understand the tech value, it's just I don't utilize it and have a hard time justifying a high end device purchase. I usually don't get a new phone unless my old one physically breaks.

But, in the event that they got more functional and could work more cohesively with other devices then I would totally jump on the bandwagon and be using it for more things but it seems like its still kind of difficult to actually use it like that at this point... My wife got a Surface Pro which is really cool, with Win8.1 and a keyboard dock its basically a tiny touchscreen laptop and great tablet. Add Skype + Wifi and it can be her phone too. Thats pretty cool. I hooked up 2 other monitors to it and she just docks it when she wants to use it as a desktop.

Maybe I'm just picky. I'd prefer to wait until things are more seamless to adopt something is what it seems to boil down to for me.

This is a little too off-topic.
