Like I said though, that was few years ago, maybe they have fixed it. Give it a try. Export one and find out

Version 1.0 was finally released a few months ago, and version 1.0.1 was released shortly thereafter on May 27th. The new edge flow and pre-rigged game ready mesh is rather nice and can provide a decent base for character development. Given it's price point, it's definitely worth checking out.

lol roger0 that made me actually laugh out loud. So i imported a mesh into unity and animated her, pretty nice so far. i really really hate modeling anything humanoid... the nice thing is that everything imports and exports fine. no more issues with the clothes messing up when imported to blender.

@im yes a few things would be nice but the ones that are their are mainly a base for your to model off of.

Makehuman is actually really nice now, they openly show the old and new meshes and yes, very much improved - You can also choose from a selection of base meshes and add your own. Marvellous designer would work great with it for clothing, makehuman comes with tools for blender to help with skinning the clothing. After the model creation with makehuman is done, additional sculpting is easy as pie so long as you respect your base. The absolute important thing with Makehuman is the models are already UV'd (The UV islands could also be arranged to be on different maps if you want extra facial detail too), rigged and skinned - they're ready for action right off the bat, with various rigs of varying complexity to suit your needs. There is a Unity mecanim specific rig available on the net which is pretty darn good all considering! Ive had something i cobbled together in makehuman animated in a scene in minutes

Its worth saying that while Makehuman does all this, to get great results you still need decent skills in various areas to get your final character, skin maps, the skin shader, skinned clothing, sculpting and further modelling should be in your toolbelt, but makehuman definitely takes the most boring part of the process away, which is a relief

+1. And I recently added this to my pipeline to help with the creation of background characters... and I also have marvelous designer too so this will help immensely.

    lmao same here.

I like Makehuman. Lets me prototype faster. Probably not gonna use the models in the final product, but its great and works with Mecanim.

I would check out Fuse. Bought it on a sale. It's been getting significantly better and better with each release. Now it can do facial rigging and 2K substance skin textures. Importing custom body parts is pretty easy too so it makes it very very easy to make unique humanoids.

My possible issue though it with the license... can I generate a quick base and modify it as I see fit in ZB... with Makehuman, I can work on my models freely

As far as I know you are completely free to work on the models as much as you want. The only license issue that I am aware of is that you can't distribute the models themselves. They have to be in a game or video or other product. My main problem with Fuse is that they don't have control rigging for Blender making it a pain for a beginner like me to animate. It appears to be mostly geared to get you to pay for expensive animations on their website.

edit: an my main issue with MakeHuman is that even though they have really nice control rigging for Blender, the control rigging isn't really compatible with Mecanim.

The game rig in Makehuman is completely compatible with Mecanim. I've used it several times. I don't know about other rigs tho. My main problem is that the game rig doesn't have bones in all fingers so it makes it impossible to animate it in Blender, unless I'm missing something there, so I'm animating with a Rigify rig and just running animations on Makehuman models with Mecanim.

Ya the game rig is compatible but it is missing all the nice control rigging for animating like the default MakeHuman and the Rigifiy rig.

It's really easy to get your character from Fuse to Blender fully rigged and even animated. Create it in Fuse, go to File > Animate with Mixamo, login, upload, then wait for it to finish. Once it finishes it'll open your browser to begin the auto-rigging process. That's right auto-rigging. You don't have to do anything, it'll rig it for you. You can then select a base (free) animation if you want or just go ahead and export using any of the below documented processes for Blender.

Yes. You can find the details below. There's basically only a limitation for Term Fortress 2 characters, which it can generate.

Yes, but once you get it into Blender, you end up with a rig without any IK controls which really makes it a pain for me to do animations myself in Blender. I'm working on doing my own IK rigging for Fuse and MakeHuman rigs but it takes a while for me to learn the ins and outs of rigging.

What do I think about makehuman?
    Very lovely program! :D

Yeah, many users on the forums have requested new clothes too.
They have some volunteers working on it.
They have even asked for volunteers too.

In the case of hairstyles, I am one of the people who unofficially volunteered to make hairstyles for makehuman.
So to all who supported me last year on makehuman forums, don't worry.
    And sorry for the delay.
I'll get to it as soon as i get a better PC. :D
    Promise.

    Oh yeah.
If their is something that you would like to see in makehuman.
eg. Clothes, hairstyles, hats, shoes, swords, human skin textures etc.
You can request it on the makehuman forums.
The official makehuman staff, will hopefully be able to help you with that.
And you can volunteer too, if you want to make the makehuman project better.
Because they have been asking for volunteers for a while now.

PS: Note that I am not one of the official makehuman staff members. Lol! :p

i used "unihuman" .. and attached a makehuman head on top... i like the unihuman for lowpoly, it seems to be a better lowpoly than any of the makehuman lowpolys.. but the unihuman head is just bad
.. oh i used one of the lower poly makehuman heads .. i think?

but im not going for multiple different human meshes, for different characters or anything, just want 1 male, 1 female mesh
the mesh deformings on unihuman kinda suck .. i made them a little more muscular, but to make character variations may look crappy
