What do you call this type of shading?

I'm an indie developer and I came across this game made with unity that I really liked. It's called Monument Valley. Does anybody know what this type of shading is called? And are there any sources out there that could help me achieve this? Thanks in advance :)

It's called awesome, that's what you call that.

On a more serious note: This looks like diffuse only lighting with baked ambient occlusion. But the look you're seeing is more about an artistic vision and a strong visual style. It has very little to do with the technical choice of shader.

It's like someone hearing a tune so soulful that it would bring a stone to tears and thinking "must've been played on a Yamaha," i.e., largely irrelevant.

I have to agree largely with shaderop on the diffuse and baked ambient occlusion part. The sea/water at the raining part of the trailer is probably flat shading.

You can probably get a similar effect by using the diffuse shader in unity and get your lighting and textures/colors right.

Shaderop really pretty much summed it up. I would call it cartoon shading, but as he pointed out its probably just using very standard default shaders with some baked lighting. They use a lot of pastel and simple colors. But I think its mostly a unified vision of a very simple color pallet and style. There's a fairly unified sense of style in the shapes they chose as well. That's mostly going to be a matter of studying graphical art in general, like painting and drawing.

watch this video Elzean posted.. They show the shader.

It's not a default shader, it's a custom one. They set the light color from each direction, interpolate it then other things they do take over. They bake the crap out of everything, apply a vignette and gradient over the screen; that's how they get their look.
