I've done characters before, it's just that they take so damn long to make. Considering you'd also have to rig and animate them in order to have a good product. Also because it takes so long to make characters I'd rather keep them for personal projects.
For now I'll stick with quick props. :p

Anyone knows what this is? :)

For a webplayer demo in wich you will be able to turn it on and off and who knows what else.

It has 31,000 triangles. I will see how well it works in unity when finished, if it lags I will probably make a lower poly version and bake normal maps.

    Still not finished.

From the "Well in theory it's possible"-department: Skin shader using Screen Space Subsurface Scattering (and a bunch of other things), running at astonishing 35 fps :D But hey, it works... (maybe 75 samples per pixel is too much though :D)

is this for sale? Because I will be making a survival horror game(no zombies) after I finish my RPG. And I will need a good shader for the realistic characters.

Although a big part of this one is actually based on my previous skinshader version and i'd love to add it to my package, i can't. Because it doesn't have the quality so i can sell it with a clear conscience. Right know it only works in deferred mode, and even there i have some strange flickering issues sometimes (couldn't see a reason or pattern yet). Despite from that, this one takes a whole gpu for itself and therefor you probably wouldn't find any use for it right now (but theres definitly a way to speed things up alot, at the cost of quality of course). But don't worry i'll keep working on it and maybe one day the unity guys will give me the ability to access the albedo and lighting values seperately. :D

Btw. i was mistaken. 150 samples per pixel, not 75.

Im not entirely sure about this model. Don't get me wrong it looks great! But i think the armour just looks to.. "striper-ish" to me.
Just my opinion and some feedback, which were all here for :)

:D Hey man, it's cool... funny that you mention that because the armour was referenced from a costume that I saw a while back... it was Roman-esque...

WIP of main character for Survival Horror game involving a cop who investigates a strange murder.

Taking a lot of ideas from the movie "The Crazies" mixed with some "Exorcist" lol

This game wont start development for a while, especially since im looking for a partner to speed up production and am also working on a zelda style RPG atm plus doing stuff for clients.

I really like the model! Very well done.

I only have one question: Why the knee-pads? Two guns = awesome manliness. Knee-pads = not so much. :)

Model is just a base for a character creator project for Phone and Web usage so working in very low polys now for a hidden project. Back to my normal work !

You can change it in your modeling app if its 3dsmax go to render>environment and set the background color.

Thanks, actually I use Sculptris. It's free and like a mini Zbrush. I do a high poly sculpt in there and from there it really depends on what the object is. This shield is a pretty flat shape overall so I screenshot the Normal map using the included normals material. (for a complicated object I would retopo it in blender, then use the low poly mesh to bake normals with XNormal).
I take the screenshot directly into the Gimp, desaturate it, and start painting details for the diffuse map.
Using the flat screenshot as reference I model the low poly shape. It's a weird workflow yes, but for me it works very nice for flat objects. :p

Thank god there are free programs out there. I'm kind of forced to work with the free ones for now untill I have the cash for the big ones. I'd prefer the big photoshop monster, etc. But for no costs involved, Blender, Gimp and Sculptris are amazing.

Kinda related: I stumbled on this free tool the other day http://alexcpeterson.com/spacescape.
It's a free space skybox generator. It's pretty good. :)
