A paintball gun :) Feedback? (I ask for feedback because I like to learn what mistakes I have made and learn how to fix them)

11k? Way to much for a gun. Look at my plane for example.

Have needed a little bit of a distraction from my primary project, and having seen some of the other simple environment screen captures that have been floating around recently. I took the last couple of hours to come up with these two scenes, feedback is welcomed, but I doubt I will ever return to these scenes.

Hail the power of Unity for Rapid Prototyping!

Looks very nice Alex. Makes me want to get out of the iOS thimble for a while.

Yes I know, I am not very good with low poly modeling. I like to get almost every detail in that I possibly can at my level of modeling (which is still not all that good)

Well, Wade, there is a place for both High and Low Poly modeling, and they are - if not different skills - different sets of experience. If you love High Poly Modeling, don't forsake it! (Oh my darling....) I think your stuff looks good.

Say - what package are you using?

Subway environment WIP - 1300 polygons so far, using 256 and 512 texture maps. 3ds Max viewport screengrab of standard materials. This is an initial "clean" pass before all of the perfection is reduced and some wear and tear is introduced.

Wade: Have you bumped into this one yet: http://www.rab3d.com/tutorial.html ?

For me, it was a real eye opener on how to approach detailed and complicated modeling.

This was my output from that tutorial:

Just some new city shots ;). Alot more buildings in, and played about to completely change the modd of the game. In what I've planned, there won't be a plane, but flying through the city as a metal robot angel thing. Sweet.

But all these lights is killing my fps. If only I had unity Pro.. deferred rendering plz!

Can you script your lights to only be on when you get close? You could fade them on as well as you get close. Also the halo/flare, as it's semi-transparent, will do a lot of the resource hogging. You could try reducing, removing or turning them on only when close.

I found a fix. It was the little red lights that were the problem, they were all touching objects. Moving them out of range of the object means the objects are only drawn once instead of 5 times for 4 lights on it. Then I used the always pointing down blob shadow script on my huge rain particle system (Used a range of 2000x2000x1000 elipsoid, and 100000 min and max particles.... ouch. Fixing that by attaching it to the main camera, and using a range of 200x200x200 and 1000min/max doubled my performance.

Your gun models are really quite good. I would suggest that you go into your model and selectivity smooth shade certain parts (barrel grip, etc). Then add some textures, and that gun will look sweet!

@ charliesamways I see a lot of good models coming from you, but none of them are textured. Planning on showing some that are?

Also, I've been doing a bit of work myself, and would like to know what you guys think.

Did a speed sculpt this afternoon and recorded the process, I think it was about an hour all up:

Granted it's not a game ready mesh, but this is usually where I start my characters off. Then it's time to retopo and so on!

Looking good :) Keep it up

EDIT: I think the skills... Look amazing. Im in love with that last one and I will consider playing this when there is an alpha :) *Hopefully there will be one*

I also love the layout of the scenery.. Could really be a great piece of indie work if you do it right!

Ofcourse ill keep it up! The only downside is that im a horrible animator, i could really use a hand with that. I'm working on a small (static) decal system so i can freshen up the terrain textures with some extra detail. I have also spend a lot of time optimizing the game it currently runs 120+ FPS ( using 8x AA, Forced Anastrophic filtering, Bloom etc (Yes i do have a pretty high end system though :p))

What i did is said I need a animator/ rigger. And said since I am the lead modeler of Da Hub I will in return give them free models. A guy contacted me and said he wanted scripts for his small game. So I asked my two scripters. They said sure. Now I have a animator/rigger :)
