Did slight improvements before I go to bed.

It is always nice for people to judge what it is that you created. Benefits of level-design. :)

    Did some basic movement also.

A mix. There are separate rocks. walls, floors, tunnels, etc. Everything is modular.

I love that workflow, especially if you want to bypass the Unity Terrain... i've done some nice work with it, but I am already thinking about going back and switching out the mountains for mesh based mountains... Keep it up man... so much inspiration going into the new year :)

You need to explain that because i really dont know what you mean by shading if you are talking about the black outline, then no this is stylized not cartoony :)

Wood on shield is in some areas pretty empty and boring add some colors variations and some areas could use some highlighting.

Well, I will say that it is a good start... this would fit in with a mobile or DS game... I would keep working on this texture... try doing a realistic one also...it would allow learning variety...

Added new image and adjusted the texture, normal map is there but its hard to see as I use low values.
I wont use it in a game I'm working on a small scene for my portfolio.

The model is nice but that texture is far from true hand-painted. Needs some work to be comparable to the wheel.
    Good start though.

@ivanzu,you could add some cracks on that stones .I really like your wheel.Did you use a mouse or a tablet to paint the textures?

We're actually committing to game mode ideas now.
Mocking up a possible new ground idea, instead of flat only as a backdrop we might incorporate the hills into the actual game. The colors are quite off now that I just overlaid this and that over here and there. Needs to be adjusted obviously, but you get the idea across :)

The thing I miss from the earlier version is the 2dish/old time look,
there was certain feeling of nostalgia that came with it, kind of a '50s game look.

I think I tend to agree with you.
I'm guessing that is mostly destroyed by the prominent foreground rock/ground detail ? And/or the platforms as well ?

Good morning and Happy New Year...

I'm about to start adding damage textures and other small details to the model and deciding to share the look of both models with texture maps and wireframes... I am planning on the design of his magical cane, which has the head of a snake...groovy, huh? Any thoughts on the renders... anything I could def improve? I would love to hear your thoughts...

Whelp, back to work...before the party.

Wow...I am liking this...A LOT... reminds me of some the sidescrollers I used to play as a kid, or better yet the cartoons on saturday morning. The only thing missing in this one, is a dino skeleton under the ground for humourous effect....

I think it is the pale green and blue static background that make it look aged, in the earlier image.
In addition to the stars which are in the later version, and yes, the foreground layers greatly detract for that nostalgic look to me.
The first terrain color stripes work with the old colors too.

Totally right about the background. While I liked how it complemented the hills colorwise it totally destroyed the visibility of the platforms.
We're focussing on the gameplay now, finally. So I expect many things to change artwise anyways. Glad we came up with a promising concept first. Now let's dive in the next adventure ;)

Can I see the texture map for this. I Think you could achieve the same quality ( No better quality ) with some simple tricks.
    wires would also be great.

When you do that I will explain how I would go about it.

Here is an accessory for my character...since he fights with his cane, it will have to look functional and detailed... this is just a roughed in design for the cane still trying to figure out if i want a jewel in his mouth or the mouth closed...

My silly stuff continues. Added a radar as I has a few spare hours this New Year's Day.

And yes, the ship is still untextured.
