What is Unity Forma?

Unity Forma empowers marketing professionals to quickly produce interactive, real-time 3D product configurators and digital media from 3D product data without requiring any coding skills. Unity Forma is an extension to the Unity Editor that provides a standardized framework to ingest product data, prepare a master model and publish interactive and static content to multiple marketing channels.

Without it, you would need to create your own framework and maintain it across multiple projects. Not only is this costly and time-consuming for individual customers to develop and maintain, but it also results in incompatible implementations. With Unity Forma, you can collaborate with others within your ecosystem, saving time and cost for everyone. Instead of building tools, you can free your teams to focus on building amazing marketing content.

Requirements

• Prerequisite software: Subscription to Unity Industrial Collection or Unity Pro and Pixyz Plugin.
  
• The minimum required Unity version to run Unity Forma is Unity 2020.2.

Getting started

Unity Forma requires customers to subscribe to Unity Industrial Collection (or at minimum Unity Pro and Pixyz Plugin.) Version 2020.2 of Unity is required to install Unity Forma.

For Forma package entitlement, you need to be part of an organization that is subscribing to the Unity Forma subscription. The admin of the org must assign you a seat from this subscription. To add a subscription to an org, customers need to work with Sales.

Once you’ve been assigned a seat of Unity Forma, download the Unity Forma package and complete these steps:

1. Open any Unity Project
   
2. Open the package manager window by going into the Window->Package Manager menu
   
3. Select the Unity Registry
   
4. Find Forma
   
5. Press Install

Current state

Unity Forma is a verified release. Within Unity Forma, we also offer an experimental feature called Render Studio for digital media development (e.g., images, videos), which is targeting to become verified later in 2021.

• Framework and Tools - Are there use cases that are not covered yet that you would like to do with Unity Forma?

• General Questions - Is there anything that is unclear or that you don’t understand?
  
• Developer API - Do you need specific features exposed or changed?
  
• Documentation and Tutorials - Do you have recommendations about our documentation or ideas for tutorials we should produce?

How to report bugs

Ideally we'd like any bugs reported through the built-in bug reporter tool, as that will automatically provide us with some relevant context. We understand that it is often not possible to share the sensitive project data with us, so we will do our best to reproduce your findings on our end without a concrete repo case. But if you can, it is always helpful to get a stripped project.
