From the previous responses Ive seen, not at this time. Special licensing and pricing was something Ludiq did. Unity owns Bolt now, and I'm guessing that for a large company, such things have more red tape and require more internal discussion and infrastructure.

Bolt is ultimately a coding tool, with few limitations, so it can make anything really. Making games isn't simple though, you'll need far more than the correct tools. Good luck!

Hi there, just wondering if there's any update on when Bolt 2 beta might be available? You mentioned a couple of weeks back in April. Thank you.

Apart from the request to access the beta, will updates after alpha 10 be publicly accessible? (to those that have bought Bolt 2)

Having followed and experimented with Bolt 2 alpha since the start, I would hate to see this open development process halted.

I built a non linear music manager in Bolt 1 and I have already begun to port it over to Bolt 2 with the various alphas with various degrees of success. I would like to join the beta and continue porting my tool.

Hi! I'm quite interested in Bolt 2, just bough Bolt the day I saw the announcement of the acquisition. For some reason, I cannot download Bolt 2 in its Alpha stage and would like to investigate it. I'm part of a team of 8 level designers and would love to start figuring out how I can create tools and systems for my coworkers and I ;).

    Cheers!

    @NeedsLoomis Thanks for the reply

@LaurentGibert Can you confirm that is the case, this triples the price for my University and a much more difficult pitch for me to push (considering I already gave an estimation based on the educational licensing that existed and that there are alternatives like Unreal + Blueprints which is free). Is there nothing that can be done ? Really hope so.

    Much appreciation

Bolt is on a 70% sale right now (it does not include the free Bolt 2 upgrade though): https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/visual-scripting/bolt-163802

@PanthenEye Awesome ! Just noticed it as well, any idea for how long though ?

Also, does anyone know if I can purchase multiple licenses as seats for students ? That is- University purchases and owns, but lets students use them during a course etc

    Thanks !

You could create a new organisation for the University in Unity's dashboard and assign seats from it. So all licences would be under a single org/account.

I've got no clue about the logetivity of the sale.

Why would they? Ludiq do not develop or own Bolt anymore. The website is up because information is still being transferred to Unity.

Ludiq did develop Bolt, but they sold it (and Bolt2) to Unity, and now the discounted version of Bolt on the asset store is being sold by Unity.

My guess is that Unity is going to hold on to Bolt2 until they feel like they have Bolt1 rock solid with the newest official Unity releases, and then they will release Bolt2 as a preview package just like all the other preview packages. Don't quote me on that though, I'm just going on what little knowledge I have picked up here and in the Ludiq forums.

I didn't say Ludiq didn't develop Bolt, I'm saying they're not developing or own it right now. I just find it weird people expect Ludiq account link and everything else on there to still be working and available when the store page doesn't link to Ludiq website and Ludiq do not own or develop Bolt anymore.

It's like when someone sells a car to a rental service, and then a new customer rents the car from that rental service, but goes back to the original owner of the car for tech support. Makes little sense to me.

They're still in the middle of knowledge transfer, Bolt 1 and Bolt 2 are large code bases that have been developed for years. Unity engineers are learning them now. They also haven't announced any concrete plans for Bolt 2, so I'm sure there's a lot of discussion happening internally on topics like pricing and general direction of the tool.

I was simply stating the fact in case anyone mistakenly expected to gain access to the Alpha by purchasing the newly released Unity version of Bolt 1.

I would like to try the beta. :)

I was looking into what to purchase for the visual scripting today and found out that Bolt was best choice for sure, then I saw that there is even newer version, I was like, ok lets do it... Then, I noticed that Unity aquired it, which is great news.
I'm using unity for hobby mostly, maybe some day even a full game, have some knowledge around C#.
Reason why I want this tool is to help me do drafts/ideas quicker.

Now there main questions I have,
    1. Should I purchase Bolt 1, learn to work on it, then transfer to Bolt 2. Or to wait for this new version?
    2. Will I encounter some inconsitices between two versions, workflow vise?
    3. And if I start working on a game in version 1, I can seamlessly transition to version 2, or I need to finish the game in version 1.
    Thanks!

1 and 2 - As far as we know, the workflow for bolt 2 has changed a lot, so it is much closer to real C #, and it has also changed how it works internally. But now that unity has acquired, we don't know what unity will do with it.;)

3 - We had the promise that the workflows from bolt 1 could be migrated to bolt 2. But if that will be possible now, it will depend on unity:rolleyes:

You construct the logic in very similar ways in both versions of the asset. Bolt 2 is just structured differently - it groups graphs, variables and events under classes whereas in Bolt 1 graphs are for the most part separate from variables and events.

There are other differences like having to use new coroutine nodes instead of the green event checkbox in Bolt 1 for time-related logic but Bolt 1 knowledge directly transfers to Bolt 2. You won't lose anything by starting with Bolt 1. @lazarevicdeja

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone is joining the Beta by asking for it. That's not typically how things happen here, in my experience.

The behavior stems from a line from the official acquisition announcement on the Bolt discord:

The wording is ambiguous, so everyone is covering their bases I think.

Does it make sense to buy Bolt 1 for $21 now or is it better to wait for Bolt 2 ?

Bolt 2 will be free that's for sure as Unity has to close the gap between Unity and Unreal Blueprints.

I just bought it a few days ago. Bolt 2 might be months away. I think it's a good investment right now even if you're looking to jump into Bolt 2, free or not, and don't want to waste months waiting in a limbo. I ummed and arred about it , because I'm cheap, but it's really fun, and looks visually appealing. Certainly worth it not to open visual studio and stare into the abyss.
