As you can see in these screenshots (one is from the scene view, one is from the game view), there is a strange pattern on the shading. When I disable shadows for the van object, the glitches go away, but of course so does its shadow. Is there a way to improve the quality of this?

this phenomenon is caused by self shadowing and called "shadow acne". you could try improve the result playing around with bias and normal bias of the light but be awre of peter panning.

Thanks for the replies. I have replaced the van with a higher polygon version, and it looks much better. It's probably related to the limited normals on that super low poly van.
