Hello, I am encountering a weird problem in a colleague's Unity editor. We added to our project a few particle systems in one scene, and although everything behave normal on two different PCs, in a third one there is a different behavior.

The problem is that the particle systems keep playing in editor without selecting them. Even selecting them and clicking on stop button, only fixes the problem temporarily, as when you select another object in hierarchy the particle begins to play again. During play mode everything works fine.

All setups (the two that everything behaves normally and the one with the problem) have the same version of Unity (2020.3.8f1) and cannot find any specific difference in settings.

Does anyone have any ideas? As a last resort we are thinking of cloning again the project in the problematic PC or even re-installing Unity.

    Thanks a lot.

I have seen this issue on 2021.3.4f1 with particles always playing and happening the same as you @SpaharGR .

I have tried most options that I can think on the editor without luck. Any news about a solution to this or planned to be fixed in a new update of unity?

I have the same issue. The strange thing is, it happened within the same project and the same Unity version. Before it was fine, then all of a sudden, all particle systems in the scene play permanently even when the respective gameobject is not selected in hierarchy.
I have no idea what I could have done to cause that.
It's not THAT much of an issue as the game itself works normally (phew...) but it's annoying and keeps my GPU working like crazy when the game isn't even running.
