Weild Android player crashes on my 2018.1.2f1

    Hi,
    I just upgraded my older project from 2017 unity to 2018.1.2f1 and it worked out nicely.
    When I build for 2 of my android test devices I get weird crashes on both.
    First my older Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100.

    After upgrading my project to 2018.2.0.f2 I started having weird crashes too on Android. Find out that is Google Play Services that crashes when trying to authenticate to PlayGamesPlatform:

    UPDATE:
    It has something to do with com.google.android.gms.games.APP_ID because logcat shows error:

    And in my manifest:

    I tried to remove '\ ', but it still didn't work and logcat error was something like that it cannot be float value..

    I confirmed that gps works on 2018.1 and crashes on 2018.2 and made a bug report. Case nr. 1060419

    Does the crash happen on MONO too? Or only in IL2CPP?

    Workaround that works at least on IL2CPP:

    edit APP_ID in androidmanifest:

    replace "\ " with "\u003

    before:
    <meta-data android:name="com.google.android.gms.games.APP_ID" android:value="\ 232323232323" />
    after:
    <meta-data android:name="com.google.android.gms.games.APP_ID" android:value="\u003232323232323" />

    so This was the location for my file...
    Assets\GooglePlayGames\Plugins\Android\GooglePlayGamesManifest.plugin\AndroidManifest.xml

    and the change worked for me

    Hey thanks all this solution fixed a crash issue we were also experiencing. It's a weird one... Unity's compiler must have changed how it deals with escaped characters and merging manifest files.

    I wanted to update my first ever project not so long ago, but apparently I broke it (well, now it turns out it was broken not by me).
    I really didn't care if it would work or not, but this issue was driving me mad. I spent about 1 full day of work, but never fixed it.
    So today I tried one more time, spent another 2 hours...
    And here is this "\u003 fix.
    It works with Mono build too, btw.

    Amazing!!! For anyone working on this problem on or after October 15th 2018. This is the solution you are looking for. If you were crying into your hands for days and cursing the gods that allowed such suffering to befall you than let Masolnar be your savior. Seriously though I am using:

    Unity version: 2018:2.8f1
    SDK build tools version: 28.0.3
    Play services version 11.0.4

    The android manifest file is located in Unity, in the folder: GooglePlayGames/Plugins/Android/GooglePlayGames

    I thoroughly appreciate your work and the time you took sharing this information. I will make sure to share the information with my Udemy instructor Raja, so we can both have this workaround in our tool belt. Thank you again my friend.

    It's been more than a week I'm struggling with this. Am I the only one for whom the \u003 solution does not fix the issue? I see my app ID updated in the manifest, but my game still "unfortunately stops" at launch.

    I'm having this same issue, been reading nonstop about the "\u003" work around and followed all confirmed solutions, but I still can't get the user to Authenticte. Starting to think should just downgrade to Unity 2017

    for me it is still a problem...

    I updated my project from 2017 to 2019 and I can't get passed the authenticated function, the game crushes

    I tried many solutions and nothings worked...
    I don't know what else can I do

    My unity version is 2019.1.0f2
    Google Play Games Plugin version is 0.9.64 and was downloaded from https://github.com/playgameservices/play-games-plugin-for-unity


    I'm pretty lost, hope someone has an answer to help solve this....
