    Hey guys :)

recently i made a coming back to unity on wich i've formerly developed open world apps.
I used windows as building target, and i remember the no more supported unity webplayer
that used tu run apps in a browser just as fast as an exe on windows :)

now i've ( with a great happiness ) discovered that the webplayer have been replaced by webGL wich is
integrated in almost all nowadays web browsers. now clients don't need to install the webplayer plugin !
    amazing !
i compiled my apps ( after upgrading many things like shaders, debugging scripts, texts, etc... )
and rushed on my prefered browser to open the freshly created index.html.
What was my surprise seeing that.... 8-O it's daaaaaaaaaaamn slow !!!! close to 8 times slower than a standalone windows exe !!!!

It reminds me like when i was running on 15 years old machines !!!!

and where the webplayer had very few limitations, webGL can only have 1 rendertexture ?????

hmmm it really looks like webGL brought us 15 years ago ;)

i understand that unity has evolved a lot and changed much during the 5 years i didn't use it. mebe
it's heavier to run ? i wouldn't be shocked for this.

or mebe am doing things uncorrecly ? i wouldn't be shocked for this either ;)
i'm surprised tho that i didn't find any topic on webGL perf on this forum.

would anybody have some general advice for me on the way to compile usable webGL apps please ?

thanks in advance for your answers and have a nice day !!! :)

okay.... now am just sure of it !!!
webGL is nothing but crap !!!!!
I have no idea of the way to tell this to unity dev team but web GL is definitely a NO-GO !!!!!

in the old days, we had unity weblayer.... This was a mess because each user had to install the plugin and all
the legion of potential viruses coming around..... that was this dangerous that the world almost collapsed !!!
but thanks to unity developpers.... finally, earth went-on running around the sun.....
then unity abandonned this mass-destruction weapon called webplayer and went back to reasonable crap: webGL
aaaaah sooooo gooood :)) everything is safe !!!!
oh sure you can show your awesome spinning cube in webGL !!!!!
3D ???? virtual reality ????????? 8-D whal is this hell-product ???? nah ! just show your awesome spinning cube :))
bliss comes from spinning cubes :))

have bliss all with your spinning cubes :) i'm off of this stage....

( message to all revolutionary minds ) :
please unity dev team !!!! you're among the bests !!!! do not accept oppression ! get up ! stand up !
make 3D and virtual reality alive !!!!
you alrdy prooved you could !!!
    pleaaaase !
don't leave human beeing in the darkness !
the common way is NEVER the right one ( except for money )
free the images, the interactions, the experiences !!!
    make your own web browser ! it's 10 copy-paste with webkit !!!!

    i confess.... i dream of a unity-web-browser that allows unique experience !!!!
exit opera firefox chrome and all those shy crappy things.

unityBrowser is The way you see things from tomorrow !!!!!

Best regards and support to the whole unity3D team !

EDIT: just have to mention that despite my subs date am an oooold unity3D user...
    since 2008 ;)

EDIT2: please unity dev team contact me thru my PM !!!!!
lemme just give you my experience on webGL as you don't seem to have any ( that's
taunty to say this but.... obviouly !!!! you got solid things to say ? )
If i can help you in any way !!!! and i want to !!!! please tell me !!!
    i'm a dev in 3D since 25 years in simulation programs !
    help me help you ;)

I think you'll find WebGL is a platform that is very slow regardless of the engine you use. It's a challenging platform to work with and you'll have to optimise the best you can. Read up in the webgl forum.

Also you should learn that most browsers only support WebGL now. There is no choice. This isn't Unity's fault so I will lock this.

Please read up on the whole subject before posting so that you are informed first.
