    It looks like there might be a character in the path:

    /Users/joaoruirego/JOG?o/Library/il2cpp_android_armeabi-v7a/il2cpp_cache/05052A41892C510CD4167875FFDFD6F0.o

    Which clang compiler in the Android NDK cannot handle. Is that really a '?' character in the "JOG?o" part of the path? Maybe try to move the project to a different location on disk.

    This should work on macOS. Maybe try to delete everything in the /Users/joaoruirego/JOG?o/Library/il2cpp_android_armeabi-v7a directory and build again. That is a local build cache, so it should be safe to delete it.

    When you moved the project to another directory, did you try one with only ASCII characters in the path? If not, please try that.

    When the error happens, can you check on the file that clang thinks does not exist? Does it exist or not?

    The error message here comes from clang, the C++ compiler for Android. It is says the file at /Users/joaoruirego/JOG?o/Library/il2cpp_android_armeabi-v7a/il2cpp_cache/05052A41892C510CD4167875FFDFD6F0.o does not exist. When that error happens, check to see if that file really does not exist.

    It might exist, and clang might be wrong, or it might not exist.

    The files will get re-created on each build. So that is why they exist again.

    I'm not sure what the problem is now - for some reason clang thinks the file does not exist. Maybe there is some problem with the disk or the filesystem.

    IL2CPP is using the clang compiler from the Android NDK to compile the C++ it generated. So we need to get clang to work properly.

    Can you move the project to a directory with only ASCII characters in the path, then try it again and send the error message? I wonder if there is a different error in that case.

    I suspect that any error you see will be different than this when building for a different platform. This one is Android specific. What error do you see on a different platform?

    You will want to look at the specific details of that first error message. The minimal line shown first is probably the same, but the details might reveal the more important information.

    My error is same while building, the process goes smoothly upto i see "building native binary il2cpp " and then the goes off and no directory is created!! I cant even able to launch my first game tht hurts man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have the same issue again....I didn't have it for quite a while, but after finally having the GPGS (which is a dread to implement correctly) working, I wanted to build and when moving from Mono (which does work) to IL2CPP (as Android now REQUIRES 64 bit to be included on upload) and I get the same rubbish as above. I have tried cleaning the cache direction. Removing the plugins directory under Assets (which in this case just caused the compiler to say NO, you need manifest.xml, reimport).

    1. It IS IL2CPP related.
    2. It is most likely plugin related (as for me it was only after adding Google Play Games Services that it started).
    3. It is NOT version dependent (I am on 2019.2.7f2)
    4. It is NOT related to using anything other than ansi or ascii characters in the path, as I used an ! and it worked fine, now I don't have that anymore and I only now have this issue.

    It is very annoying, because it costs a load of my precious and shrinking amount of available dev time!

    Another option to debug long build times is to pass the --profiler-report option to IL2CPP. This can be accomplished by setting the IL2CPP_ADDITIONAL_ARGS=--profiler-report environment variable then running the Unity editor.

    This option will cause IL2CPP to write a profile.json file that can used from Chrome to see what parts of the compilation process take the longest time. That might help indicate the cause of the problem.

    Same here on building for Android. This time i just let it set and it finally surpassed that part, just give it time. Once you hit build you do get very impatient. But just give it a extra 10+ mins. Min surpassed the Building native binary with il2cpp about time it took me to read the first page/skim reading. Note it still taking long for il2cpp to finish still building entirely; compiling native assemblies for arm64 doing the same thing. o_O

    It's one year that I am not able to publish any update to my Android app on the Play Store because the Play Store now requires 64bit apps and every time I try to build my project with 64bit requirements I got that IL2CPP error.

    This failure occurs because the code in the project has extern methods in C#. Methods marked as extern with a the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute must be present in a native library that is linked with the Unity player when building with the IL2CPP scripting backend.

    For example, this in this project one function which causes this issue is named: ShowMessage

    You have two options:

    1. Build a native library with all of the methods marked as extern with the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute for the target platform and architecture of the player. See this documentation for details about native plugins: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/NativePlugins.html

    2. Remove the C# code which defines this extern method. You can do that with platform dependent compilation: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/PlatformDependentCompilation.html

    2019.2.15 here, getting 3 super long errors, my game worked in mono, but after attempting to upload to play store and being told that it needs to work on 64 bit architectures I attempted to build il2cpp, I am getting the same thing as basically everyone else. I spent days upon days on this game just to not even be able to publish it. I tried everything I could thing of, or that was posted here. Could someone please help me even a little bit, because I promised to release this game January 1st...

    The latest Unity version definitely has a problem. I was always able to build on Unity 2020.1. Now on Unity 2020.2 it fails to build even the sample URP project. It gets stuck on building native binary with il2cpp. I have to pray it will work. If it gets stuck on building native binary for more than 5 minutes it gets stuck forever.

    Guys use Unity 2020.1.17f1. Downgrade your project. 2020.2.X can't be trusted to build webgl projects. It fails too frequently. Never had problems with 2020.1.

    To know that your project failed to build, the Building Native Binary with IL2CPP step shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. You will know it worked when the CPU usage goes to 99% and your computer makes that sound when a plane is taking off. But when it fails, it will go over 5 minutes, the CPU usage stays low and the computer stays silent.

    The step that can take a lot of time is "Compile WebAssembly module". If your build reached this point you don't need to worry because it will finish, eventually. On my pc it takes 20-40 minutes.

    Don't use Unity 2020.2 for webgl builds. Use the 2020.1. You have been warned.

    I am have the freezing issue building an Android APK ... but if I check "build app bundle (Google Play)" then it builds fine... only takes a minute or 2 but otherwise it seems to freeze...

    I am using Ubuntu Linux Unity 2019.4.18f1. I have let it sit on the `Building Native Binary with IL2CPP` step for over 10 minutes and it keeps the processor busy but like i said it acts frozen, such as I can not cancel i, I can only wait or force quit.

    At this point i have been sitting on the `Building Native Binary with IL2CPP ` step for building a development apk for at least 10 minutes...

    I will wait a while longer just to see as others have mention it may just take more time... but again the app bundle builds in under 2 minutes

    UPDATE:

    I have been waiting over 25 minutes and it is still on that step

    update 2:
    30 minutes in and now the process mono is not using any cpu time anymore

    also have many `clang++` processes running only about 7 or 8 of them are using cpu time but very little

    still says `Building Native Binary with IL2CPP `

    update 4:
    40 minutes in still on that step and `clang++` processes are still using some cpu time

    gonna try again but with a blank project as there is a lot of code from assets added to my current project...

    I will first try with Unity 2019.4.20f1 while I am downloading 2019.4.22f1 which I will try next

    but back to the current build it has now completed the `clang++` processes and closed them
    now pass the `Building Native Binary with IL2CPP ` after 50 minutes

    update 5:

    APK built after almost an hour

    @JoshPeterson why did the bundle build in about 2 minutes but the apk took almost an hour?

    I figured out that if you do the bundle it is always fast... other wise an Android IL2CPP build is slow...
