Did anyone else here see this? The Weather Channel using Unreal Engine to simulate what a storm surge looks like for viewers.

It's interesting to see what is primarily game-engine tech being used in other industries. Unity seems to be doing a lot in the automotive/film spaces too.

    Pretty slick. It provides context.
We've come a long way since the Video Toaster. ;)

How do you know it's Unreal? Not doubting, just curious.

I'm afraid "think so" is not enough.

Why not? pretty sure he already has enough experience to recognize it or knows it from the people he follows.

I don't care how experienced someone is. I want proof when people say something otherwise they'd have you swallow anything. You should not believe anyone just because they "seem to...".

Do you know who Aras is?

edit: Checked his tweet and seems he knew it was UE4 right away and not guess it

He's an engineer (he describes his job in the interview below as being somewhere between technical director and graphics engineer) at Unity. He's been with the company since the very early days.

I'm not a fan of assumptions either but there are people I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to until my own research proves otherwise (which in this case produced the same links as mentioned by @Mauri) and he's one of them.

Old school represent! I checked last night after posting in this thread and was surprised and happy to see Lightwave is still going strong. It was my first regular 3D program, from back in 1991. Damn I love this stuff.

I currently use version 9.6 which is about 10 years old.
Buts its fine for just models and UV maps.
If I wanted the current rendering stuff I would upgrade.

A healthy dose of skepticism is a good, but this is a tweet, not a thesis!

My main work in Unity was different areas, but this type of stuff. It's been going on for a while and I suspect it's going to go a heck of a lot further.
