TLDR: Tampa Fringe creates digital fringe festival using unity to create a 3D Ybor City Historic District.

Hi folks! I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post but I thought I would mention it to the community as it may be of interest.

I run a small fringe performing arts festival in Tampa Florida and usually we do in person shows in May in our charming historic district of Ybor City. But this year because of Covid 19 we had to shift to a digital platform so, instead of just doing a Zoom based showcase, we decided to create a fully walkable 3D model based on Ybor City and house the performances from within the model.

There were four of us working on the project for two months and we basically all started with little or no Unity or C# experience of any kind, so I know it probably contains many glaring issues we're not even aware of but - hey - we're theatre people pretending to be game designers lol.

We used Display.Land (sadly now retired) to scan the buildings etc in 3D, cleaned things up a bit in Blender, and then Unity for everything else!

Thought you folks might be interested to see what a few stumbling n00bs did with Unity and Blender to merge the arts with technology and open up our community (virtually) in the age of social distancing. You can play the game (well it's not really a game - more a sort of sandbox/walking installation/exhibit... dunno...) anyway you can experience it at:
