This one is a little hard to fathom.

I keep getting warnings in the console that refer to gameobjects that aren't in the scene anymore. For example, a missing script warning.
And if I click on it in the console, the inspector shows me the panel for the gameobject it's referring to, but it isn't in the hierarchy. It's as if some copy of the object has been saved just for the sake of this warning.

    It's driving me mad.

Have you got more information? Have you restarted the editor? Is it a prefab or just an object?

If the problem persists it could be a bug with the way scene files save level data it will need looking into.

You just hit the nail right on the head. I feel like an idiot. Turns out, the warnings were referencing an old prefab. One which I never used and had forgotten was even made from the object that was originally in the scene.

After deleting it, the warnings went kaput.

    Thanks!
