I was trying to run 2.5 for the first time and getting an error about another process trying to use a temp file it was trying to create while starting up. (It was a temp version of something in the Island Demo directory.) The editor would then crash if I tried to get past that. I tried the Data Execution Prevention setting mentioned in another post but that didn't help either.

I then decided to suspend Kaspersky Internet Security and voila everything started up fine! So, if anyone else is using Kaspersky please keep in mind that you may have the same problem.

I love you. You are a genius.

I posted earlier about the temp file issues and I have Kaspersky. That is the first time my AV has every caused me problems.

Works like like a charm now!

    I love you. :)

To fix this without suspending your AV protection:

Go to Settings>>Threats and Exclusions, click on Trusted Zones button, select Trusted Applications tab, at the bottom, click on Add, browse to Unity Editor and select it.

Go ahead and start up Unity again, and it should work. This procedure was done using Kasp. Internet Security 2009, so the process may be different in other versions.
