Hello, I'm working in a project, I want to create a vr shortfilm, similar to "Perspective; Chapter 1: The Party" the only difference is I want to use the google cardboard. I'm planning to shot with 3 cameras and wide angle lenses, then merge everything in one big video, and then put the video inside unity. is that possible? is any other option totransform a "normal" video in a VR video ?
    THANKS!!

    HI there

yes if you want more info, I will be glad to answer you.

We are experimenting with 7 gopros for a video mountain bike trail teams experiences, using 6 angles and simply creating a skyback image run script with those six matched up angles, we have achieved good results thus far, we are on NDA however regarding who for, so sorry but, ill post an example pic of our blender camera workflow so far

    Capture.PNG

    PLease note

use atleast 1080x1080 for output per angle , 16FOV which matches the angles on all cams at 45 degrees respectively, also make sure teh up cam is rotated from the front cam at 90 decrees and the arrow of the cam element is pointing backward, and the reverse for the below vie as depicted in the center here,,

This setup allows you to use the cube projection method with the fish eye filter effect to create an immersion quality we have yet to see beat.

    :)

we are also attempting sphere projection methods, that require a sphere to have 6 seperate uv unwraps for the one object and materials on a texture sheet loop or image replace script all attached to a timer, this however is proving difficult for the GPU to handle, as running mesh with this 6k res video for HD to 2k displays seems like a nightmare for even our high spec render machine.. though we suspect update function issues rather, SO EXPERIMENTAL. AAAH :)

    Hi Franco,
We have been shooting with 6 gopros and a special rig with pretty decent success. It took a while and some skills to stitch all 6 videos together into one panoramic, but it worked as a proof of concept.

We have also built our own video player with Unity to play our panoramic and 3D videos, so that we can control the playback and provide menus and additional functionality for the videos rather then just posting them on Youtube.

What I would recommend you to do with 3 cameras is to try shooting in a "multiscreen" mode. Synchronize the videos and make them play in a VR scene on 3 screens. If you need any help with coding that in Unity, let me know.

As an example look for Oculus Cinema multiscreen demo. It's pretty amazing. Much simpler than panoramic, but cooler than traditional one screen video.

You could also combine 2 cameras to shoot in 3D...

Ckeck out kolor.com, they have some good software that you don't need any programming experience for. (I've never used it, but this is the one I planned on using had I went forward with my idea)

Kolor Autopano is a good choice and I've used to to stitch panoramic videos. One thing to note there is that you need videos with overlapping areas for autopano to successfully stitch it together and from my experience 3 cameras will not let you cover 360/180, but again you can try to limit the area and fill the rest with some info/ads/blank space.

The process of stitching is pretty cumbersome, that's why a multiscreen solution would be a good alternative. Sometimes in movies you don't need everything to be on the screen. You can show 180 view of things that are in front, where the action happens.
