Hi everyone, after the 5.2 Update I started using Visual Studio, but even though it seems more powerful, I think that I'll go back to Monodevelop mainly for it's highlighting. You can see it in this screenshot:

Unity methods, my method, my variables, etc are coloured in a nice and helpful way. I wonder if I can do this in Visual Studios because I couldn't find anything in Fonts and Colors option.

PD: Sorry if a wrote something wrong. I'm not a native english speaker.

It's entirely your choice to go back to mono develop just because of colours.

That's rude and it's a useless response. My thread it's to ask if Visual Studio is able to manage a more intelligent highlighting.

How is it rude? I merely pointed out it's entirely your choice to go back because of colours. This is in response to:

Visual Studio certainly is. But these forums aren't Visual Studio Tech Support. You might actually have better luck reading the visual studio documentation.

I'll have to get used to it I think, because It's a powerful IDE. I expected to find more help, thanks anyway.

It is totally worth it. In the menus you'll be able to redefine the colours. It's a beefy app though and I'm not sure even people having used it for years have explored it all.

I really missed having more options for syntax highlighting in VS too, like methods and variables, compared to what other IDEs and editors like MonoDevelop, Sublime, etc. have, especially for C#.

Thankfully, someone finally released a free extension for Visual Studio called Codinion that adds close to all the options you're looking for:

    www.codinion.com

There's also a page for it on Microsoft's Visual Studio Extensions, but I'd go directly to the Codinion website and get the latest beta from there.

    Hope that helps!

Oh, and if you want an editor within Unity that has a lot of syntax highlighting options, see Script Inspector 3. It's a paid product, but really well done. If there is an option you want that isn't available, just tell the author in one of SI3's forum threads what you're looking for. I asked for separate coloring for punctuation like in VS, and the developer said he'd implement that. Pretty cool!

Would anyone be willing to supply me with a Codinion highlighting file that replicates Monodevelop's excellent Obsidian theme? I can't seem to get the colors right.

Extension like visual assist and resharper add more color highlighting, but are paid option.

Thanks for pointing codinion, I didn't know.
