I've made a similar post under another post. This is simply a bug and I filed for a bug report few days ago. It happens on my Android 4.2 device made by LG. I think that this happens with any Android < 5.

Interesting. I think you should file for a bug report too.

    Hey!

As hangemhigh recommends, please file a bug for this if not done already. We aim at supporting Android >= Lollypop (API level 16), so your hardware/OS combination should definitely work. Please let us know what you tried (media, how you imported, how you set up the player) so we can see what's wrong.

Hey, I have the same issue using the Unity 5.6.0b3 Beta. Whenever I try to play a video without transcode on it will crash the app as soon as I build & run the game on any of my Android Devices (Samsung Galaxy s6 & Huawei P9 Lite).

When I enable transcode the project runs, though the video player remains black on android. I tried a combination with different dimensions, codecs and bitrate modes, howver the video will not start playing.

I used the video player's Material Override and render texture option, both deliver the same result as described above. Everything works fine when I make a Windows Build.
