I cannot believe how buggy Unity 5 is and that it has been allowed out in this sorry state, and charging thousands of dollars for it to ...

I've upgraded to Unity 5 Pro and iOS 5 Pro from Unity 4.x Pro, I have a 21GB project built up over years with multiple scenes, I go to build to iPhone a scene I've been working on for weeks in Unity 4.6 with no problems at all, and the first problem I run into is Unity won't open Xcode, a problem that always happened every time Unity had an upgrade, you would think they would have sorted this out by now, if anyone is having that problem HERE is the solution.

Then it won't build because of multiple errors, OK this is not all Unity's fault but developers of plugins not being ready for Unity 5, but I start to correct the errors some with the help of the developers then now when I try to build to iOS Unity just disappears ... CRASHED AGAIN, now thats all it does every time I try and build that scene.

O well I thought I'd try another scene, so I go to a less complex scene and get it to build to Xcode with errors in Xcode so it won't build to my iPhone but again I remove or correct the errors and get it to build to my phone and it works, great light at the end of the tunnel .. Not for long.

So now I'm in the scene I built to Xcode, so now I double click on another scene to try and now Unity just hangs, colour wheel spinning away, I leave it a while, make a cup of coffee, tap my fingers on the desk, watching the colour wheel going round and round, so in the end have to force quit Unity. (Cannot even open another project from the scene, just hangs again.), I try again on the same and other scenes ... And the same happens, so now I'm stuck on the one scene with no way to the others, tried double clicking on them, tried loading them from the menu, no way are they going to load.

So to get out of that one I set the preferences to not load previous project on startup, then I selected another project to go into, and that loaded fine, so then I closed Unity, opened it again, chose the project where I was stuck in the one scene and it loaded into the scene I was trying to get to when it kept hanging. ????

Repeated that a few time with the same results, hangs in the scene, force quit, reload project, it loads the scene I was trying to get to.

I upgraded to Unity 5 because I was getting LOTS of crashes due to memory limitations of Unity 4X thinking Unity 5's 64bit editor would be just what I needed, well so far no memory related crashes, but I did NOT expect all these problems from a so called move forward in development, and a piece of software that I consider not cheap.

I've seen more of the Unity Bug Reporter than I have of Unity 5 .....

Could you please provide the bug number, so we can look at your case faster.
We were working with a lot of large projects during beta cycle to provide smooth transition experience to Unity 5 for all users, but possibly some issue slipped into final version.

I feel you pain mate! I just posted a similar story of unity hanging with no reply just yet and no idea about what to try. At least you're getting some actual crashes which might lead to a resolution. When unity hangs there doesn't seem to be much course of action?!

I've just replied in your thread :)
Activity Monitor on OSX has a "Sample/Sample Process" feature that allows to inspect callstack of hanging process.

Yeah few bugs knocking about but pretty amazed the ships still seaworthy given such a tight timeframe to get it out before gdc. If anyone reads this, you can do your bit for the war effort and post those bugs!

Every time it crashed I'd send the bug report, I've now got it stable after a day of going through all my project removing assets I'm not using and assets I thought might be troublesome due to there being no updates or support for them in a while.

What really annoyed me was the lack of notification from Unity, just, puff and gone, then the freezing trying to move from one scene to another, again no hint of the trouble.

The two assets that seem to be the most troublesome was.
    Screen Recorder.
    Camera Filter Pack.

It was 2 shaders in the camera filter pack.
    CameraFilterPack_FX_Glitch2.shader
    CameraFilterPack_FX_superDot.shader

Also a shader in Realistic Effects Pack
    Dissolve

The developer of the dissolve shader responded in a email sending me an updated shader.

I tried contacting the other two developers with no reply, looks like the Screen Recorder developer has stop supporting the asset, and the developer of the Camera filter Pack did not reply but is active in the support forum and looks like he's working on the update pack for Unity 5.

Maybe this can help someone else out.
