I am trying to decide wether to use pixel or vector art for a 2D platformer. It will be a tile based platformer. I am wondering what do most platformers use for graphics. I am pretty sure Super Meat Boy and Rogue Legacy uses vectors, but I am not really sure. If anyone knows which style of art is most popular for platformers that would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

Unity doesn't support vector art. You can create your art with vectors, but to be imported into Unity it must be rasterized.

Unless you use a plugin like RageSpline, anyway. I don't have any experience with it though, so I can only say so much about that.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and go with vector art. Sure, you'll have to export it to a rasterized format to import it into Unity, but that's easy. Vector art works well with a wide variety of resolutions, rotations, camera positions, and so on. Pixel art...does not. The forums include many threads of people trying to get Unity's texture system to output "pixel perfect" results, which just aren't natural for it, and create a lot of work and heartache. Vector art just slides in naturally.

I would play with the tools available for 2d editing, painting, animation, etc. before making that sort of decision.
Like they said, since in the end it will be raster anyways, the key thing is can you live inside the world of the tools you'll be using?

Thanks, and I have noticed that too when working with pixel art in unity.

You can use a vector art package to create images and then store them as sprites... effectively then they are just another form of pixel art. So it depends if you want to use TEXTURES, or whether you want to use GEOMETRY... you can make a whole game out of just triangles (bearing in mind sprites are 2 triangles also)... but will need some third party tools probably to mess with the triangle data - e.g. something like ragespline.
