Using Vuforia AR for standalone application?

Hello,
i am playing around with the amazing Vuforia Toolkit and i've asked myself if it is possible to publish a standalone windows application with Vuforia? Because for now, the build just crashes, although everything works great in the Unity editor! I know its just for preview purposes, but why cant this work in a standalone build?
Is there a way to get this to work or do i have to switch to another AR tool?

 

I have exactly the same problem as propeller. Anyone knows how to make it work??

 

The SDK doesn't support desktop apps, which is why you can't build an EXE. Only Android and iOS are supported. We provide a simulator for the Unity Editor, but that plugin can only run in Unity.

After some time of research and testing we have built standalone-app with Vuforia.
