Using Substances for 2D sprites.

    I was wondering if applying substance materials generated texures on quads with alpha from the substance it self would help reducing filesize and android texture compression fragmentation ant once at the expense of sacrificing ease of use of unity's 2d tools and atlasing. Has anybody done so or would you think it's too much of an overhead for mobile devices. I have never been fan of substances because of much complexity over just manipulating PS, but I always can't help but be redrawn to them whenever I check my build size properties.
