I sent you an email. I was wanting to try to it create character sprites long ago because I remember how easy it was to use and learn (Anime Studio 7 tutorials were short and helpful). The other thing I'd like to try is making a cartoon style animated skies I could combine with one of the half dozen or so day / night light cycles...

I would recommend toon boom studio over it.

I use Harmony a lot to make 2D assets which is from the same family of vector based 2D drawing tools.

It is the same vector based set of drawing tools. I have anime studio so I know how similar they are, I more came to recommend toon boom studio over anime studio (as they are similar price points however IMO studio gives you a lot more.

I am and I must say its quite simple. I am more into 2D animation then game dev but anyways I am actually creating a visual novel in Unity and I am using Anime Studio Pro 10.1 to make everything like characters, backgrounds, props, etc..

You could find my project here:

I plan on updating it soon. I have been working really hard on this and as well as my anime series that is being animated in Anime Studio. :p

Eh I could make something like that in Anime Studio in like 10 minutes with the drawing/shape tools.. Not saying its bad its actually good. In my personal opinion Anime Studio is the better program due to my knowledge since it can pretty much make anything. In all honesty though even though I think its the best that doesn't mean anything either... What makes a program "Better" or the "Best" is not the software itself its the person who uses it. See like you may like Toon Boom better since you know the program and it works better with your work flow. Where with me Anime Studio is the best because I have experience and I could create good quality with it basically I know the program and use the way I feel is right.

I just got Anime Studio Debut 10 a few weeks ago and I used it for the animation in my game.

You can check it out here:

Yes, nothing fancy here but it definitely made animating things so much easier than manually drawing each frame.
Keep in mind I am a software engineer first and foremost. For a long time I have been working to improve my graphics and music skills. I am happy with how this game looks and sounds so far but let's be honest these are nothing close to what a real artist could do! ;) Heck, I spent 30 minutes drawing the grassy top rock tiles. lol Everything does look a little better at the normal full size. The webplayer version is 1/4 of the size. I made the game for 1024x768.

Anyway, I think it is an awesome development tool.

Awesome! If you ever get the chance you should totally update to Pro but since you have debut maybe wait for 11 or 10.5 unless you really find pro a must have. :) Also if you ever need any help with Anime Studio Pro please feel free to message me. ^.^

Thats true. I only posted something with the basic tools. Yes it is about workflow and I agree the Anime Studio workflow for me wasn't anywhere near as nice.

But yes I totally agree you could get the same result in Anime studio (or even photoshop and definitely illustrator). In fact illustrator is a good option for 2D graphics. Anime studo/toon boom only really shine once you need to animate.

A demo of the new FBX export from Anime Studio into Unity.

Looks pretty decent for a first implementation, but there is no deformation/point level information exported. It won't beat Spriter or Spine in any hurry, but it does have the advantage of being able to create content from scratch via its vector drawing tools in addition to doing cutout animation. The new constraint tools in v10 are also very useful and much appreciated by longtime users!
