I follow URP's development in github mostly everyday.

All of the new features/changes look great and will benefit the project greatly.

My comment/question is that the new features/changes represents fairly substantial change to the work flow of URP in general. Is this assessment correct?

Will Unity have a blog post or forum post going into details? Things like materiel overrides, new/moving of URP global settings, light layers etc *seems* like they might have an impact on a project that *may* not be apparent when upgrading.

On a side note every few weeks we test upgrade the project to URP 12 from URP 10.4 in 2020 LTS and everything seems to be fine.

Aside from that really looking forward to URP 12.0!

Hi @Bosozuki, thank you very much for the feedback. We are glad the improvements we are making are in the right direction for our customer projects and their use-cases. We are also trying to ensure upgrading between versions goes as smoothly as possible, so happy to hear that you didn't face issues during your test.

As you have noticed, we do have a lot of new features and improvements in the pipeline. We are working to make sure changelogs are updated accordingly. The team is also working on documentation in the background while new features are landing. As we have done in the past few releases, the package documentation will come with an updated What's New page to highlight the improvements and new features. Plus, we have plans to do a forum post when the features go into beta, as we started doing so with SRP v11.

    Great!

I am curious. For the past year or so I know Unity has reiterated that the development of URP was focused on becoming feature parity with the old built in render pipeline. From my perspective, Unity pretty much exceeded that with URP 11/12. Our core tech performs much faster with URP than the builtin render pipeline on what we consider low spec hardware and high spec hardware.

It seems the focus now is on new features but also there seems to be a *standardization* of the editor work flow between URP and HDRP i.e. global settings, shader graph master stack to be similar to one another. Is this the case?

Yes, we have started standardizing shared workflows between the pipelines where it makes sense. We have tried to make sure we stay true to that goal for the new features we deliver this year. For existing features and workflows, we have also started converging where possible without affecting the individual goals of each pipeline. And we will continue on this effort and balance it with adding new features for our upcoming releases. And, of course continue to improve documentation :).

    Hey Bosozuki,
How did you manage to install URP 12 on 2020 LTS? In package manager the highest version I can go for is 10.6.1.

    Thanks.

After 2020 LTS (not sure if 2020 LTS is a part of it or not) new SRP ships with the unity version, not package manager. So they probably downloaded the new unity version and tested it there.
