Maybe a stupid question, but when I was getting ready to set up my unity asset store publisher account the second required field after my name is a url...
Am I wrong in that that means I need to have a website of my own before i can actually publish assets on the asset store, and if so, why on Earth would I bother selling assets on the store and lose 30% of my profit when I could just sell directly off my own site?
I apologise if that is a wrong assumption...although I am a somewhat talented artist, I can be incredibly dense about the general workings of this sort of thing...

I wish you good fun with setting up an payment system for your website, build a system that will deliver the digital content to the buyer and marketing the stuff ...

In the Unity assetstore you are on the fingertips of all unity developer, you do not have to care about the complicated stuff around selling and just focus on putting the best stuff that a "somewhat talented artist" can produce.

I have seen asset-store publisher who just linked on there DeviantArt profile page and if that's fine with you then there is no need for setting up a own website.

i think you misunderstand my meaning...
i dont want to set up my own website for all the reasons you just mentioned, but if i had to do so, my point was why bother with the A.S., if i have all that in place..seemed redundant.
thanks for the snarky answer though.

    Correct.

Seriously? Why would anyone sell on Steam and lose 30% of their profit when they could just sell directly off their own site? The answer is the same.

Anyway, a web page is easy and cheap. There's a huge difference between a web page and an entire e-commerce site.

I removed the rest of your message. Not sure why you want to slag off long term members of this site. They are trying to help you learn about what you need to do to be successful.

Wow, he just had a very valid question and you didn't even tell him why the website is needed in any way.
