Upgrading to Unity 5

    Hello Unity and community!

    I am a student and purchased Unity Pro through studica.com at a reduced price, and Unity 5 is coming out soon (or soonish) so I want to be prepared. Will I have to upgrade through them since the original purchase was made there, or can I upgrade directly? I would also like to know how much this upgrade is going to cost, please advise.

    If you have a valid serial# than you will no problems to upgrade it to Unity 5

    On Studica, it says:


    If you have pre-ordered it on Studica, you'll get Unity5 for free once it's released. In the meantime, you can use Unity 4.

    That depends on when he ordered through Studica. If he ordered Unity 4 before the pre-order started then this would not apply and he'd have to go through the regular upgrade process.

    You have a Studica license, purchased before 5.0 was announced. I *suspect* Studica can sell you an upgrade to the 5.x version.

    Thanks for the input! I just called them (studica) and they said they have the perpetual license for $375.50 and I am not bound/required to upgrade through them. I have looked through the site and cannot find how much it would cost me to get the upgrade through Unity itself so I am unable to compare price. I bought Unity Pro 4 through them for $2000 and I see that it is only $1500 through the site, so I just want to try and get the best deal I can.

    $2,000? Did it include any pro mobile platforms (IOS or android). If so, that's why it was $2k. Unity Pro 4 is $1,500 but IOS pro is an additional $1,500 and Android is an Additional $1,500 so $4,500 for pro with both mobile pro platforms. As of now the upgrade price would be the same as the Unity 4 upgrade price but you never know, could change. The upgrade through Studica would likely be the cheaper route.
