I use Pro and have upgraded to the last release of 5.2 and it works flawlessly.

There are so many posts here listing problems with 5.3 I am scared to implement the upgrade. We are on a tight deadline to open, and I have enough problems and headaches without creating more that are avoidable.

Is 5.3 stable, and is there any com pelling reason to upgrade at this time?

    Thank you.

There were an equal number of posts listing problems with 5.2. You should read the release notes and decide if any of the changes are worthwhile for what you're doing. In general, people do not upgrade engines in the middle of a project unless there's something critical that the upgrade fixes.

5.3 went beautiful for me, stay away from 5.3.1 and 5.3.1p1 right now though

But if you are nearing a deadline and 5.3 doesn't offer anything you need then there is no rush.

I'll agree - hop to 5.3.2 when it comes out (after checking the coast is clear). 5.3 is OK for development AFAICT.

Thank you for your time and valuable assistance. I see what you mean about not changing horses in the middle of the stream. We NEEDED to upgrade to 5.2, but I do not need 5.3 at this time. Based on your observations, the decision is clear.

If the project works ok in v5.2 definitly not upgrade yet. I would also wait on v5.3.2 until it is confirmed it solves all performance issues at least.

I wouldn't definitely not upgrade. 5.3 destroyed my project twice and I've had to rebuild (we're up for release on Steam in less than 4 weeks as well). The amount of bugs in Unity is absolutely ridiculous. They need to get them sorted, and fast.

I and many others had to rollback to 5.2.3.
I had numerous issues: particle systems not working, and the game engine spamming internal exceptions messages to the console, which ultimately leads to Unity becoming unstable after in playmode for a minute.
Numerous times the editor hung up, and I had to force exit Unity. This has never happened before to me with other versions of Unity where the game engine would become completely unresponsive.
Also, something is going on with all my specularity. The specularity calculations seemed to have changed requiring assigning new "smoothnees" values assigned to the shader. It still did not look right after trying to assign new values.

Is it making your objects appear like they have no specularity?

AFAIK there will be a 5.3.1 p1 coming which will hopefully add stability, so you might want to back up then try the forthcoming patch release (date unknown).

Yeah, something wasn't right. Everything looked like plastic or rubber. I didn't really investigate it too much. I just went back to 5.2.3 because the main issue was the console spamming of errors.

My partner is getting that error on all of his art too, everything looks like it has no specular but in mine it has specularity. We're both on 5.3. 5.3 did bring the GGX specularity change, so it should look a little different (in a good way) but instead it looks 100% flat.

That came out two days ago, it was even worse for me

For me 5.3.1p1 didn't open some projects at all. It's freeze for state compiling scripts... (Windows 10). Have to went back to 5.3, where is some bugs which effect on my projects, but I can continue my work...
