For "some reason" I cannot install unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015090301_amd64.deb on ubuntu 15.04.

    Errors were encountered while processing:

    Is anyone else getting this?

Will try to download again just in case the file has been corrupted.

For me it wouldn't show the install button. I had the previous version installed, then tried the stickied update. The versions matched v5.1.0f3 so it seemed like Ubuntu Software Center just wanted to re-install, which may have worked. I uninstalled the old version first, then installed the latest and it was successfully installed.

@cr125rider they did not change / update the version number on the .deb file.

I'm also having trouble installing the via the deb and shell. The deb install hangs in the Ubuntu Software Center and I receive the following error when attempting to run the shell script from terminal:

    Installer for Unity 5.1.0f3

Press Enter to begin extracting to ./unity-editor-5.1.0f3

    Unpacking Unity 5.1.0f3 ...

bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

tar: Child died with signal 13
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
chown: cannot access ‘./unity-editor-5.1.0f3/Editor/chrome-sandbox’: No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access ‘./unity-editor-5.1.0f3/Editor/chrome-sandbox’: No such file or directory
Extraction complete. Run ./unity-editor-5.1.0f3/Editor/Unity to begin

Is anyone else receiving a similar message?

gdebi allowd the install to proceed. I used synaptics to install gdebi then
    sudo gdebi ~/pathtopackage/unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64.deb

However, once it was installed.. I was stuck on a screen "Connectiing..."
however, I killed the process... relaunched.. it then allowed a login.. but as then failed the required Personal Edition User Survey when I tried to enter text for "Other". All the fields were buggy, sluggish to respond, erratic.. especially the pull down fields with long lists.. like Country and State selections. So.. not sure why that basic function is causing a freeze.. but it did.

After 3 tries, I was able to run the program.. does not inspire a lot of confidence in what may lay ahead in terms of practical usability for this software on Ubuntu as a production development box. God forbid I end up having to dual boot the box and install windows.

Wine/PlayonLinux ? That never worked.. spent 3 days fooling around with that method.

Officially, I have Unity installed, natively, to Ubuntu. Indeed it is a very beta release, that's being generous.

Unity's installation article for the Ubuntu native and agnostic packages assume much and offers little.. and yes.. so it ended badly. Not wanting to give up and install native Windows to this laptop, I spent several days trying to go the route of Wine/PlayonLinux. Everything I tried to install via POL worked pretty well, just not Unity5. I have a whole text file of notes about that adventure..

My original attempt to install unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64.deb (and the agnostic package) went thru "Ubuntu Software Center" and that never did yield a successful result. However, since I spent a long time installing all kinds of other things over a period 4 days.. things like Mono and Visual Studio Code and so forth.. I am sure I ended up, inadvertently, installing some dependencies that were also needed by unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64.deb. I think the big difference was gdebi.

So after all that preliminary effort, installing unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64.deb was actually simple. ;)

Install Synaptics from the Ubuntu Software Center
Install gdebi from Synaptics, select all packages
    Download unity-editor-5.1.0f3+
2015082501_amd64.deb from Unity (buried deep in their site) Install Microsoft Visual Studio Code for Linux
    Install MonoDevelop
[Install craploads of undocumented S*** from all over the place from various forum discussions]

    then simply type in..
    sudo gdebi ~/pathtopackage/unity-editor-5.1.0f3+2015082501_amd64.deb
    and cross your fingers.
As stated above, I ran into some bugs with the initial screens.

Note.. everyone of these downloads ranged in size from 50mb to over 1gb.. so it took forever just to try each and every approach..

NOTE: Ubuntu specific, same commands may work for Debian also.
What I do everytime I update is:
    Code (csharp):
    1. sudo apt-get remove unity-editor
    Then:
    Code (csharp):
    1. cd <path to unity deb>
    2. sudo dpkg -i <path to unity deb>
Works everytime. :) I also recommend wget for downloading directly. ;)

EDIT: That, and I think there's a verbose option somewhere for dpkg... I'd have to look.

scoutroden: You've installed the very first experimental release, from August 2015. There have been significant improvements since that time - I encourage you to try a current build (last post in the thread).
If you install the deb using the Ubuntu Software Center, it will install (hard) dependencies for you automatically.
