We would like to sincerely thank you for participating in our GameTune beta. We created GameTune with the intention of making Unity’s machine learning approachable for all studios. However at this time, we have decided to pause further development, and discontinue the GameTune service. In order to minimize any disruptions to your game mechanics, we will continue to keep the services live until August 1. Costs will not be incurred for any usage from April 1 to then.

We have consistently heard from our community the frustrations with not being able to do more to optimize game mechanics and performance, and the desire for automation since many of our partners are resource constrained. While we’ve seen great performance with GameTune, most developers are not yet ready to transfer game optimization to machine learning.

Our Product and Engineering team will continue to work on what a potential machine learning solution in this capacity for Unity looks like. While we don’t have any specific updates to share at this time, we will keep you informed as we have product updates and as opportunities become available for you.

Here’s how your GameTune service will change:
    • All of your live questions will continue to function as normal, but you won’t be able to create new questions.
    • Before August 1, we recommend disabling the GameTune SDK remotely through the dashboard which will automatically start returning the “control” variant to each player (detailed instructions below).
    • After August 1, we will disable the SDK for any developer who is still live and the dashboard will be inaccessible. As a result, the “control” variant will be served to each player, but other than that your game will continue to function as usual.
    • We recommend removing the SDK and any GameTune code at your earliest convenience. Please note that once the service is shut off, it cannot be turned on again.
    • Until August 1st you will be able to access our dashboard and reporting as usual after which the dashboard will be made inaccessible.

For help moving off of GameTune, we are happy to assist you at gametune-support@unity3d.com.

Your participation and feedback will greatly influence the long-term vision of Unity’s gaming services, and we thank you again for your partnership in this beta.

Please reach out if you have questions.
