    This has to be devastating for them. They have no more excuses for why they'll never finish a game.

    I would have been able to finish my MMO but I can't because Unity :rolleyes: didn't give me Customizable Splash Screen in free SMH

    You're right. Not trying to wear rose-tinted glasses here. ...However, doing that did just get much simpler/easier (if I'm understanding the announcement correctly):

    I believe that the iOS/Android support for Personal/Pro has feature parity, and that the only difference now is the splash screen. If that's true, that means that cost of development just went way down. You/your team can use the full-featured, spash screen version while testing deployment internally, then spend $1500 once to make the final build.

    That's assuming that you're under the 100k revenue limit. If you're above, maybe $4500 isn't too bad.

    While PE is fantastic and 5 is available, we are ignoring the real highlight of today's event... I got a sweet Unity backpack!

    ok now looks cool enough for me (except blurry text) I'm pleased, only this "Personal Edition" thing irritate me, really had to be there? "made with Unity" isnt enough? But this really small thing so nothing important to me, especially atm no plans for games, assets store things more likely.

    as for feature parity: Im really happy with this since I'm creating assets store things actually.

    As a developers we are all winners here and benefit from the competition :) Now you're free to choose which ever works best for you.

    Same here as I do mostly Asset dev, the Unity Free version really hold back productivity. Personal Edition is way better.

    I am a pro customer - I get Access to Asset Store Level11. The free assets in the store are ... mine to keep. Forever?

    Yeah I don't see too many complaints here I think this addresses all the pricing concerns I can think of. I don't see any need for Pro as a hobbyist whereas before I did so it killed that itch dead :)

    On like the 100th try, I finally managed to get through with a manual activation.

    Yeah, it's been returning a server 502 error for almost an hour now. Manual activation doesn't work either. I'll probably try again later tonight when things have calmed down.

    EDIT: I JUST managed to get manual activation to go through. Tricky but possible.

    The ONLY issue is see with Pro now is iOS and Android are not included as part of a single $75 a month package.
    I think if you pay pro you should get pro everything.

    For many indies I don't see the point in Pro unless it includes iOS and Android as part of the main package. Seems like they might get more people buying the pro version if these were included. I would like to see a poll for this.

    This is probably most accurate post in whole thread. What just Epic did will have impact on Unity for sure, but biggest impact will be on Cry. Cry was struggling since beginning anyways on low users base and pretty much nothing at all released since it went indie, on indie scene.

    No I want to see a poll that might suggest what could be more profitable. If there was a 4x increase in sales it would be more profitable to them and to us. Finding Win Wins is not a bad idea.

    what about an option to use double precision types internally? something akin to this:

    That's really good for indies having all main UT5 features similar to UE4, also there is still 75$ subs for additionnal services or the 1500$ license.
    It seems Unity has review the features for the Free version with UE4 propositions, and it's good for both Unity and indies i think. UT is staying strong on the indie field it seems, that's good :D

    So ... as far as I can tell, there's (at least) two extremely awesome engines out there. Unity 5 is definitely capable of generating extremely awesome graphics if put into the right hands.

    btw, just so that it's clear: i'm not bashing, i think this is absolutely great news!

    ....but..

    all of this cool new stuff to be driven with the same old mono? i don't get it.. the new theading scheduler made it into 5 as well, right?
