Casual developer here, just wondering whats more efficient for long term backups, exporting
the project to .unitypackage files, or taking the folder itself? I've been zipping up the folders
themselves and so far they seem stable, but was wondering what the general consensus is
    for backing up projects.

So far, my projects have been small. But lately I've been working on one that seems to be
endlessly growing onto itself. Have to know what is best for long term.

Go with both, to be sure. Maybe create a new project, import your package, check its working and save that in order to keep your archives project size down.
