UNITY_WSA not working while UNITY_UWP is...

    Hello,

    I'm having some problems.

    I'm using some code that is dependent on a DLL that is Windows Store specific. Naturally, I can't use this inside Unity therefore I'm wrapping that specific code in:

    Code (CSharp):
    1.  
    2. #if UNITY_WSA && !UNITY_EDITOR
    3.    //some code
    4. #endif
    5.  
    But when trying to build this to a Windows Store C# Project, Unity will stop with the error:

    Code (CSharp):
    1. error CS0246: The type or namespace name 'someRandomWsaPlugin' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
    It seems Unity is still looking for classes/namespaces while being built. But this namespace will exist once the C# Project is opened, isn't this the whole purpose of using compiler flags (for example UNITY_WSA)?

    I accidentally stumbled upon the flag UNITY_UWP and this seems to work, since Unity never recognizes this flag, but the C# Project will.

    I really would not wanna write a dll wrapper for this library. Any suggestions? @Tautvydas Zilys

    If it's a script file inside Assets\ folder in project, it should have worked. If it's not, it's definetly a bug, but I really doubt it, because we have a bunch of tests using that define.

    It really doesn't work. @Tomas1856

    Another example of using classes from the Windows.* namespace:

    Code (CSharp):
    1. #if UNITY_WSA && !UNITY_EDITOR
    2. using Windows.Foundation.Collections;
    3. #endif
    4. ..
    5. ..
    6. #if UNITY_WSA && !UNITY_EDITOR
    7. PropertySet parameters = new PropertySet();
    8. #endif
    And the error while building to C# project:
    Code (CSharp):
    1. error CS0012: The type 'Windows.Foundation.Collections.PropertySet' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'Windows.Foundation.FoundationContract, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, ContentType=WindowsRuntime'.
    And this reference is only resolved once the C# Project is actually built and that project is opened. :/


    EDIT:
    It seems to be able build for Universal 10 but NOT for Universal 8.1, but why should it even matter? Unity shouldn't process code within the if-statements while building, right? :eek:

    Any chance you got paste the editor log from such failed build? Generally, you'd want to use #if NETFX_CORE define when calling platform APIs, as UNITY_WSA will be defined even if you have mono compiler selected in your player settings.

    What specifically do you mean by "platform APIs"? And where can I find the editor logs? And what is the "mono compiler"? I can only change "Scripting Backend": .NET or IL2CPP. (Using Unity 5.3)

    Windows Platform APIs is everything in "Windows.*" namespace, and any APIs that are implemented in WinMD files.

    Editor log can be found here (taken from http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/LogFiles.html):

    Thank you @Tautvydas Zilys

    But it seems that the NETFX_CORE flag doesn't work either (when building for Universal 8.1). I tried with it and got the same error (see below). But it will work fine when building for Universal 10. The only work-around I can find is:

    1. Type some random compiler flag that doesn't exist (so the code gets grayed out).
    2. Build with success
    3. When inside the generated C# Project comment out the compiler flag
    4. No complains about PropertySet (and all other stuff) not being found

    Do you have Windows installed on D: drive?
    From log I see both C and D drives when looking for Program Files. C seems to be used when compiling scipts for WSA.

    It does exist. In the logs provided above I used NETFX_CORE not that, that would make any differance.

    The only references to the D:\ drive I could find in the log is for Unity files. My Windows is installed on C:\ :)

    Something is fishy. Windows.Foundation.FoundationContract.winmd only exists on Windows 10, the compiler should not give you that error when you're building for Windows 8.1. Furthermore, I just tried your code sample on 5.3.0f1 - it builds just fine using Universal 8.1 SDK on an empty project.

    This leaves me with only one conclusion - is "Assets\ACELib-Social\UWP Facebook files\Plugins\winsdkfb.winmd" by any chance targeting Windows 10 SDK?

    You are right, the winsdkfb.winmd is targeting Windows 10! But I was under the assumption that Unity didn't try to resolve "issues" while building for a C# Project if there are compiler flags preventing it? (because as I said, it will work if I use a random compiler flag that doesn't exist and then later remove it (UNITY_UWP worked before when I had similar issue even on Universal 10 builds)).

    Not sure what you mean by resolve, but we definitely do compile your scripts when building.

    The proper solution to your issue is to set that winmd to be only compatible with windows 10 SDK.
