Just a quick update for you about Samsung Apps store: we have now over 10.000 downloads there and 5 Vikings is nr1 game on Samsung Apps in 7 countries! :)
*statistics is related to 'default' device Galaxy Note 3, it's slightly device dependent

Do you do any special advertising/posting on sites for android. I can't seem to get any traction on android. My latest game is going okay on iOS but bad on android. It is free btw.

Actually, not.. tried once Android Apps review site ($150), but didn't get any downloads for Paid version )
I think there are some 'booster'-services for Apps, for much cheaper price, but haven't tried it yet..

Only using official website, facebook and twitter for linking/announcements - that's it for now. Cannot make any discounts, unfortunately, on Google Play like we do at SamsungApps - over 20.000 downloads there :)

Have downloaded your latest game btw (on iOS Android) - really cool! Might some questions about it, will post on your thread..

    Thanks :)

And thank you for being open with advice/how you are going. My next couple will be more arcade type games instead of my hardcore puzzles lol

General feedback I have from friends is love the game and what it looks like but has a steep learning curve and gets hard fast.

Hi Raider, thank you for your comment!

If you have an Android device you can simply download 5 Vikings on Google Play [v3.0.6]: t.co/42lStRFHSe

and see it all in action - it's FREE to install and play !
Players can now collect the Resources and Trade those for Gold!!
nb! check in the Shop section :) few times, it's a mixed solution.

I will soon remove that other android Free version to avoid confusion.

I remember reading about this a year ago. It's great to see how much you invested into this.

Can you tell us, as a developer, how profitable it has been for you? You were part of a Chillingo program of I remember correctly, but did the game gain you any money?

Hope I'm not asking too much, but as developers we want to learn from each other.

I will load it up again on my iphone to see the changes you have made! I am not big on the android.

I am curious how you intend to make money on the free version. I am getting ready to release my next game and I am trying to figure how to best launch it.

Yes, it's been a while :) and correct - they picked our game from 100% Indie program (by Chilingo) for publishing at Samsung Apps. The game has to be paid - that was condition for the Samsung program, and at that time I didn't have any Ads or In-Apps in 5 Vikings.

Long story short: when the game was exposed and in the top 5-10 at Samsung we had like 10-20 paid downloads per day, not every day.. for a few weeks if I remember correctly. If I made it FREE for the weekends, we had immediately about 1.000-2.000 downloads per day! cause it was Free and in the Top 5 for several countries  , but those downloads didn't give us any profit, of course.. you have to have In-Apps at least, or Ads.
So.. we did get some profit, but far away from a reasonable amount to be satisfied, taking into account how much we have invested in developing (hundreds of hours), in different assets, etc
We just kept going with development since it's really awesome to make games thought this is not my primary job, more like a hobby still, until we added some other important aspects of any modern game: Shop with In-Apps, Trading system, Social part and some minor Ads.

I hope this answers somehow to your questions guys ;) it will take much longer if I describe all the bumps and mistakes on a road-trip to this day, I'd rather start another Thread about it: what to do and NOT to do for proper developing and releasing, we did learned a lot for the past 2 years! And if I have had all the knowledge about marketing and features in my game back then, it could be totally different case I suppose.
It is not that easy to make Angry Birds similar game lol

I can also add that I think age of Free + Paid versions of one game is in the past, unless you have next Minecraft or Cut the Rope :D, it should be one Game with In-Apps or In-Apps+Ads in it, plus optionally with Social aspects (FB, Google+). And, of course, you have to think of a strategy how to attract any potential Player to be involved in your game and use In-Apps at some point; also, be careful with Ads..
But to get truly great buzz about your game you need a good Publisher.. which cost quite a lot, of course..

I agree free with ad's is the easiest way, however you need a pretty good volume to make it work well.

700 downloads in 2 days is good. And the style is good to, by the way!
