Unity2017.2 : build error : UnityLinker.exe did not run properly!

    Hi

    I tried Unity2017.2.0b4 WebGL build.


    However, there are two errors and a build is not created.

    This happened for me when I had DLLs in my project that were compiled against 2017.1 Unity DLLs. After rebuilding those DLLs it now compiles for WebGL correctly.

    There wasn't a way to identify them via the compile errors - however the project I work on doesn't use any third party assets so it left only the 'core project' DLLs I had which were the culprit.

    Ok, thanks for the answer. I 've seen some Dlls names in the log file, but they belong to third parties, and I don't have the source..

    We fixed this by changing the API Compatibility Level inside the PlayerSettings from 'NET 2.0 Subset' to 'NET 2.0'.

    I think some DLL files need the full NET 2.0 library to function properly, though don't quote me on that. :D

    i have this issue too - tried changing API Compat from subset to full but no change. Mine is when using cloud build for iOS though. Android and windows builds go fine but the ios builds fail every time (over 2 different projects, one with just a spinning cube in scene)

    This problem is because of "link.xml" file in Unity IAP Plugins.
    Updating Unity IAP to latest version fixed my issue. Hope it'll fix for you guys as well :)

    I had just updated IAP when my problem started. Re-Installing it didn't seem to work but I deleted the whole package, downloaded, and re-imported. That fixed my problem.

    There might still have a file called linker.xml at your Asset folder. When I removed this file, it solved all the issues.

    Hi Dan, sorry I didn't reply earlier - I thought the linker file would have solved it. Basically the project I work on uses DLLs that reference the UnityEngine.dll under the Unity installation directory under Data/Managed/. These DLLs I produce are then copied into a Unity project and used there.

    What I did was make sure my custom DLLs were pointing at the newest version of Unity's UnityEngine.dll, rebuild them in Visual Studio and re-import them in Unity. If you're using DLLs from somewhere else then you might be out of luck, unless the original author has provided an updated version.

    Thx for that. This says: Fixed in: 2017.3.0a7. But Marco we are already on later version so that doesn't solve it?

    Checking now about the null ref but the above seems still to be problem.

    we checked. We are on a version of Unity 2017.3.0f that is reported as having that bug fixed so that is not it. And the error is definitely not it as this exact project compiles in Unity 2017.1 no problem. This is something that Unity changed about the linker starting in 2017.2 and it prevents us from even compiling. Any ideas? This is really a problem now and we don't want to fall behind further. Again: the exact same project compiles in 2017.1 fine but does not in any version after 2017.2.

    We're having the same issue, and have waited for several promised fixes in various versions. Our build still fails with this error in Unity 2017.3.0p2, so we have submitted a bug report of our own to ensure this is finally fixed.

    I understand that 4.6 is for VS2015; in Unity editor, the build asks to change to 4.6.1, but here i don't know where to change. This could be a reason for the problem?

    Tried to delete link.xml without success.
    Tried to update to 2018.1.3f1
    Tried to delete Library directory on the project to force recreate it.
    Can't disable Analytics (Personal version); not use IAP; the project directory do not have special characters (just letters, numbers and one "-").

    Please, sugestions to fix?
    I did not problems with the same project in the last version used: 5.6.2f1

    Now, I delete IAP that was installed (Window -> Package Manager -> In Project -> Remove IAP 2.0.1).
    Updated to NDK r13b.
    Tried to change to "Script Backend IL2CPP": I have only "Mono" and "IL2CPP" as options; should not there also "net"?

    What key the UnityLinker is looking for?
    Why build for Windows works and build for webGL/Android not work? What could be the difference?

    I really appreciate any directions to try solve this.
