Unity templates not working

For my new project I thought "Hey! Let's give those templates a try, setting up AR is always tiring in Unity, but this looks like a one click solution"

But alas:

I get some weird half baked intro screen and it basically does not work... Not what you'd expect from a template.
Unity has so many quirks these days...
