So as you can see above, Unity 2021.2.5f1 is taking absolutely forever to create a new project. I have been waiting for over an hour, and the progress bar is still at the 'Resolving packages...' section.

I am running a 64-bit Windows 10 version 10.0.19042. My laptop has an Intel Core i7-8565U CPU, and a nVidia GeForce MX130 GPU.

Does anyone have any idea why Unity is being this painful and taking forever to create a unity project? Is this a bug that Unity 2021.2.5f1 has?

Are you on a slow internet connection? It is likely downloading default packages. It should only be slow first time around.

No worries, you are lucky your cant enter the project, otherwise will be met with delays in every single action taken and hours of delays if try to export or build anything.

The Unity has just exploded in complexity exponentially, is not even close to workable in 2021 and above. Maybe 2020 is better, never tried that one.

But really, should just stop immediately adding anything to the system and optimize, Unity 2022 should be all about optimizing, than add even the slightest new feature, there is no point to it if the editor is completely unusable.

Hi, the Unity 2021 has severe issues getting stuck everywhere, is just not working right and need optimize and clean up. Moving up in versions and features should be considered only after the base editor is working right, the issue is that features are moving ahead in lightning speed without any consideration of what is happening in the actual performance in real scenarios.

There is really zero reason to add more features if not optimize the system to actually work.

Yes, this is absolutely ridiculous. Same issue. I am actually trying to make a cool asset which in the long run requires me to use the latest version I imagine for release, so I guess I'm stuck. It finally loaded after 12 minutes but still.

My Apple Silicon M1 isn't any faster creating a New Project. This is ridiculous.

Extra unwanted packages in new projects (collab, testing, rider and other junk):

About the fastest way I have found to make a project and avoid all this noise is to create the project, then as soon as you see the files appear, FORCE-STOP (hard-kill) Unity (with the Activity Manager or Task Manager), then go hand-edit the Packages/manifest.json file as outlined in the above post, then reopen Unity.

Sometimes the package system gets borked from all this unnecessary churn and requires the package cache to be cleared:
