Hi everyone, I'm a student who has just started with Unity. I would like to know if I can use ads in my game with unity student plan? Are there any restrictions for that?

If it doesn't generate any income for you, it's fine. But I'm not a lawyer, read the license. If you don't understand, ask a lawyer.

Ads themselves technically shouldn't be a problem, though they imply you are building a commercial game which is specifically forbidden (wanting to put ads in your school project doesn't seem all that plausible). The free Personal license doesn't have that restriction, so just switch to the Personal license.

Great, thanks. Then I have a following question. If I was developing a game using a Student plan, but then I decided to include ads in my game. Is it totally okay to switch account/project to Personal license, add ads and publish the game?

If you're working on a commercial project already using an educational license, you've already violated the license terms. If you switch to using a Personal, Plus, or Pro license for the project you will no longer be in continued violation of the license terms. I am not a lawyer. Really you should be bringing legal/licensing questions to an attorney you hire for that purpose.

No, at this point I'm just learning Unity. I just was thinking about doing a game with ads and I was wondering if I should switch to Personal license right now or I can do it when I'm actually going to publish a game. Thanks a lot for your help.

Mixing different licenses in a project is also violation. My advice is (I still am not a lawyer)you create your business game on Personal License the begin with and leave your educational license for what it is for: learning stuff.

Just switch now. Aside from losing access to the dark theme there are no advantages to the student license.

The engine itself doesn't change, but there's some other stuff that's different between Pro / Personal with the supporting online services.

I still agree with "just switch now".
