This has been happening a lot recently with multiple projects.
Whenever I switch from Debug Mode to Release mode Scripting Mode.png , the editor does stuff but gets stuck at MonoCompiler.Tick() MonoCompiler.Tick().png which can stay there for hours without continuing.

Anyone any idea why the Unity Editor gets stuck on this? It's not just the project, this happens with multiple projects. Believe my craptop (6 year old gaming laptop) also suffers from this problem, is this widespread?

    Specs:
Unity 2021.2.f1 <DX11> Windows, Mac, Linux installed on an M.2 PCIe SSD
    Windows 10 Pro 21H2 (Build 19044.1415)
    Intel Core i7 6700K
    16 GB of DDR4 @ 3200 MHz.

I searched for a fix and found this post at the top of the search engine. Any clues? Using 2021.2.7f1

I managed to get around it by setting the default mode to Release in the Preference Settings. Though it's not a permanent solution, it's at least a workaround

Same using 2021.2.12f1c1. The editor is always stuck at MonoComplier.Tick() when switching from Debug mode to Release mode. I have to restart the editor every time I use debug mode and need to switch it back.
