Unity Size is big for me

Hi everyone
am new to unity community and even dont know coding am planning to start learning or use a visual coding but
am not here for that i use an old version of unity VERY VERY OLD! i think its 2.3 i use it because it have a small size and unity 5 is now 2 GB+ with everything and 1.7 GB unity only so any way to get it a smaller?
i cant download it its so big if i download it i may take soo much time! Please help!

Unity 5 itself is only 1.1GB.

 

still big am using 2.3 right now but still experiencing some bugs and i found unity easy :3

No. Unity itself is a pretty sophisticated piece of software. Its big because it does a lot of awesome things.

Its also downloadable by torrent if you are concerned about interruption of connection. Most torrent clients will handle pausing and resuming downloads just fine. It may also be faster.

But seriously, upgrade to 5. There is so much cool new stuff that's been introduced since 2.3. I doubt very much that its in any ones interests to patch Unity 2.3 to fix the bugs you are experiencing.

 

At one point in time there was a Linux disc vendor that offered a service for those who lacked the necessary connection to download files. You would submit a list of files, pay ~$12.95 for DVDs or $7.95 for CDs, and receive the disc a couple weeks later. I cannot seem to find this company any longer though so I'm going to assume they have gone out of business.

As @BoredMormon has pointed out, Unity is a sophisticated tool. It is big out of necessity and there isn't any real way to shrink it beyond 1.1GB without losing functionality. If anything though that size is pretty much the modern equivalent to a floppy disk download. Visual Studio, for example, is pushing 9GB and many games are now well into the double digits.

My advice is going to be similar to his. Use the torrent and simply wait it out. Or ask a friend to download it. You may already have Unity 2.3, but your options for receiving assistance are going to be very limited. Most, if not all, of us on these forums are using either Unity 4 or Unity 5.

 

What part of the world are you in, and are you on Windows or Mac? Someone with access to blank DVDs and a postal service might be willing to help out.

 

i have a Windows i will just start downloading Unity 5 right now with torrent do anyone know where i can get as much scripts ready to use?

 

Look up for example projects in the Asset Store. There are plenty of them.

 

what does the unity example include? just a example or much of them?
and now i have unity 5 now am installing

 

Example projects contain scripts you can examine and study.
Otherwise you must learn how to program... or purchase a visual scripting tool like PlayMaker on the asset store.

 

Considering the size of most software packages these days, 1 gig+ doesn't strike me as all that large. It's not tiny, that's true. But the average game on my computer takes up several times that amount. I have an SSD for my Windows install, so I know what its like to start bumping up against memory restrictions. (I recently got a hybrid drive to free up a lot of the space on my SSD) But I don't think the current size of Unity is unreasonable.

I'm especially pleased with the project file sizes. I don't know if they changed anything with 5, but my default project folders are only around 3.5 MB. This is without a lot of assets added to them, but it's still quite small, and I appreciate that.
