In 5.4 beta 1 release notes.

Why Unity really need to remove web player, Is it because chrome not supports it?
We still can play unity web player games on other browsers.

I am using chrome. But when i need play a unity web player game, I will switch the browser.
    and not everyone using chrome.

Currently, Unity's default platform is Web Player.
What will be the available platform if we only download Unity Editor, and not any other platforms?

Unity WebPlayer relies on a technology called NPAPI.
    Chrome removed NPAPI support.
64-bit Firefox does not support NPAPI. 32-bit Firefox now requires users to manually activate NPAPI plugins. Mozilla intends to remove support for most NPAPI plugins (including Unity WebPlayer) in Firefox by the end of 2016.
Microsoft Edge does not and never did support NPAPI.

What @prestonmatterport said. Safari also looks like they are going to remove plugin support in the future.

The default included platform will be standalone for whatever OS you are installing on.
