Months ago I gave up trying to make it work, and I crawled back today hoping things might be different now that I have a new phone.

Still nothing worked until I got to this. Thank you.

I'm on mac (Catalina) with a Google Pixel 4a, if that helps anyone (or gives anyone hope).

IIRC, unity remote just displays the game window onto your device. Its useful for testing the graphics and feel, but afaik you cannot use unity remote to test cross platform features, since its actually running in the editor, and the output is just a buffer.

Have had the same issue. Started learning Unity by "Mobile Game Development with Unity" book. Struggled for weeks to launch a simple project in Unity Remote (MacOS and Google Pixel). Luckily I found that I need to configure the build setting (File -> Build Settings). I've switched to the Android Platform and it starts working.

Hope this little hint will be helpful.

Mac M1 user here. I was about to give up after i tried everything from every forum out there.
    But ved-cat's solution worked !
(Specifically i installed android studio, opened its sdk manager, copied the location of android studio's sdk, opened unity preferences, unchecked the recommended sdk, pasted android studio's sdk location, RESTARTED unity).
    THANK YOU bro :)

Yes, that's right. However, if you are creating a touch-based game, it's far faster to develop and run on the remote all your many small changes, then save device builds for actual hardware testing. No Remote means many, many hours wasted on building native apps for testing every little thing.

First, connect the device to your pc.
    Then open the unity remote.
After that open unity. If the unity editor opened before these 2 steps, It didn't work.

Guys, I found a solution to the problem, this is due to the lack of a USB driver on the phone, I searched for a long time which ones to install correctly, but in the end I came to PdaNet http://pdanet.co/install / by installing the version for a computer with a USB phone connected, I had the computer authorized using the phone, and it works! Hurray! Unity Remote now connects without problems.
And the phone uses a way to transfer images, not multimedia
